Is there a reason why we would believe another countries Foreign Minister

Should we believe Canada's, Britain's (Foreign Secretary) , France's, Japan's, China's, Pakistan's, Iraq's, Israel's?

Do you know anything about any of these people?

Would you know their name if you heard it?


So when we hear " Israeli Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom officially denied reports that Scotland Yard passed any information to Israel regarding the bombings" - why is that any different than if our Secretary of State said that? Do we assume that all other countries have only trustworthy people in office while we alone do not?

They might be good / they might be bad. They don't have the power of the US military - but many of them have enough power - I imagine - to have some kind of power trip.

I suppose it stinks to think other countries politicians might be just as bad as ours - but unless I have more info - I have no reason to assume they are better.

Summary : with a rotten administration, you'll have a rotten foreign minister. Then it depends how good they are as "salesmen". In a way a "good" one is more dangerous than a "Bolton-type". Powell was respected and gave an aura of respectability to Bush.
