Talk until your face is blue or bloody.
Edited on Sat Jul-09-05 01:52 AM by Melodybe
I've ranted, I've called people eeores, I told people to fuck off, I've worked, I've put my own money where my mouth is, I've put my time where my mouth is, I've sat and reasoned with rednecks on one of the most conservative campuses in the country, I've done a lot. And yet, I still come here and listen to pessimistic jerks tell me that it all is for naught and that things will never get better.

Well, I reject that. I am a firm believer in never giving up. I believe in hard work and patience. I know that usually with hard work there are little rewards. But guess what I'm still working to make the world a better place and my sleep is good and deep. Charlie Chaplin once said that "so long as men die, liberty will never parish."

What will it take DU to make you talk? What will it take to make you go to every march, or write every letter? What will it take for you to have the courage to not hold your tongue at family functions, or at work, or with your friends?

You say that they don't listen, but have you checked your approach? Ask if they could have clean energy that didn't require killing brown people would they use it? Ask them if they had the choice to only buy American products would they? There are so many things that can be said that need to be said, why aren't we saying them?

Did you know that in marketing one bad review equals ten good ones? Give Bush a bad review and give good reasons.

Tell people that they are dividing us by religion and race only so they can screw us all, remind people that they are the victims of these class wars and that things can be better.

So DUer's talk until your face is blue or bloody, but never stop talking! Silence is our most destructive course. True patriots speak truth to power, and if you speak then people will listen, it may take time, but all good things do.

Email people, write letters, throw drunken political parties, print up 100 copies of the Downing Street Memo or an article about the dangers of electronic voting and hand them out, or just leave a stack sitting on a bench at the mall ,do a freeway blog, do something.

But if you hold your tongue, if you don't do anything you have no right to complain when they come for you.

So with yet another one of my do something/anything posts again I ask you to help me.

I am currently trying to organize a millions against the media march for February 1, 2006. The 10th anniversary of the Telecommunications Act in NY, DC, Atlanta, LA, Miami, and Chicago.

I have a few people in LA and Atlanta (thanks you know who you are)so far, I post all the time about it, but people here aren't volunteering shit. My in box isn't full, and don't tell me that maybe no one likes my idea, with as much bitching about the media around here give me a better one than millions of people standing outside the office of CNN, FOX, The New York Times, and the Washington Post and telling them we don't believe in them anymore. Telling them and anyone that can see us marching that they WILL try to steal the elections in 2006. Telling them that they have been lying to us for a long time and we won't buy their bull shit anymore.

Hell if you can't volunteer to help organize you could help me with writing up proposals or the website I'm doing. I have to write up proposals for the state Dems in NY, CA, GA, FL, IL, and DC, cause they are interested in helping, but I don't have a fucking clue of how to go about it. I registered www.millionsagainstthemedia.com and now I have to fill it with a mission statement and pictures. I have no clue, as to what I'm doing and I am just one freaking person, with 2 toddlers running around. I'm not rich, I'm not powerful, I'm not anybody, but that isn't going to stop me from making it happen.

We ARE the heroes we've been waiting for.

36. YES.. I can I do I will.. WE WILL WIN!! find your way to express yourself
I take www.deceptiondollar.com and crumple them up and place them on the metro.. then sit across and watch people open them and see there faces..

.. I talk to EVERY telemarketer ( I have home business.. I get many).. if they wanna try to sell me something, FIRST they are going to listen to what I have to say. I usually start with the media isnt telling you the truth.. and MOST people know this.. then I tell them I am involved in the movement to bring the truth to America, and then tell them about th DSM. I direct them to afterdowningstreet and to John Conyers..I've had so good talks like this! .. I also talk to cashiers and waiters(AFTER the food has come).. sometimes Ill just leave a decepction dollar with a nice tip!

I call radio shows... www.wegoted.com prepare some material and speak up... people want to know that many others think a certain way, tell them you know the wars a lie.. or tell them the election was a fraud.. tell them somethings fishy about the 911 story (WTC7 .. why did it collapse)
Be bold.. be creative but BE THE MEDIA... this is the fight, for the awarness of the country! We are swimming in facts, whistleblowers, and damning testimony, what we dont have is MEDIA!

I had a good talk with a repairman yesterday, as he saw all the bushcheated'04 stuff I have and other various fridge magnets... and we had a good talk.. he said .. " I know bush is a moron, but I know who he is.. Kerry was flip floppy and would change with public opinion.. well.. I told him what angers me is people thinking I hate MY counrty cause I am willing to point out its flaws! We got to DSM and the war, and he just doesnt know... but he likes fox.. It's tough, but I know he can always think of 1 liberal that loves America! .. oh when he mentioned flagburning.. I said I'd burn 1000 flags to save 1 soldier! its a symbol I said.. I value what it stands for, not the cloth!

we are just getting started!

4. Thanks, the state Dems were ALL really interested
everyone I talked to was very forthcoming with information about who I should talk to and what not. Well the higher up on the phone I got, then they started asking for proposals, you know explaining why and just what it is I want them to do. But no one shat on me, they everyone was very receptive to the idea. I'm beginning to think that dems in the state parties are ready to join the activists in the street. But I am not good at that kind of writing, so any help on how I should structure it would be greatly appreciated.

The website, I have a name registered and band width donated from a friend of mine with a small server, I'm working on it.

Thanks guys, don't think for a second I won't be e-mailing ya. Even if it takes a while you'll hear from me.

11. If you come up w/ some great ideas send me an email.
I am a member of the Progressive Women's group in my town, the Democratic Party in my town and I am the organizer for my local DFA. I also plan on assisting w/ the Young Democrats this fall at my local campus (not a student but they sure need the help). I have an email list from these groups alone of over 300. Not bad for a county that went 69.9% for *.
Count me in on the assistance. I'm not a lazy person (just really busy). Give me a day or so and I will respond.

7. I know after talking to brain washed redneck after brain washed redneck
I've made progress. Heck I have repubs that come and sit at my table every week just to talk to me.

If you can go from the angle of buy American, you''l go far with rednecks. Talk about Wal-Mart and how they are a monopoly and how no one has any money to shop anywhere else. Or talk about the good things in the bible, etc.

There are so many productive things to be said if only we took the time with people to explain them.

Bush doesn't want them to think, corporations don't want you to think, say that and maybe you'll get somewhere.

24. Melodybe, you rock!
You make a great point about talking to the redneck about buying American. For as much as we hate the way bushco has demonized the Islamic world, we demonize the repubs. If we are going to overcome the propaganda of the neocons, we have to reach out to these people in ways that they will overcome THEIR demonization of US. It starts by listening to them & tuning in to what issues they are concerned with. My experience has been when I ask them about a specific issue, one not generally talked about in the corporate media, they usually will talk about so much more than abortion or gay marriage.

My discussions with two people led to them closing their Sam's accounts & going with Costco. I've talked to a father of 2, who is blinded by the abortion & gay marriage issues & asked if he was at all concerned about education for his children or if it mattered to him that his grandchildren will have clean air to breathe & clean water to drink. "Of course!" he said -- & I had my foot in the door to point out the reality of Boosh's policies. At a party I told a small group about corporate personhood & reminded them that the the current pResident prides himself on being a CEO president, so why is anyone surprised when his policies favor giant corporations & not the middle class. Jeez, I've even made an impression discussing how bad the state of our highways are & wouldn't it be nice if some of the $5 billion a month we are spending in Iraq were spent in our communities, our roads, our schools, our hospitals.

Very few people realize the monthly total we spend on this war. When you tell them $5 billion a month, it really sinks in. And I always say billion just like Carl Sagan did -- really stress that B sound!

We are the party of community; they are the party of me. We have to get the message out there, & it starts by listening to & then talking with just one person at a time.

:yourock:

===

Sometimes to stress the $5 billion message I add this: If you were to count from 1 to a Billion, one number per second, it would take you approximately 32 years. So, if you were to count the number of dollars we spend in Iraq in one month, it would take you approx 160 years. ~~gasp

We never lost any Dems, the media only convinced people that they should care more about hating gays than being able to have health care, clean water, good jobs, it's crap.

They divide and conquer and all of their divisions are imaginary.

do nothing outside of this board. Some things that will help our cause take so little effort.

Printing up a 100 copies of the Downing Street Memo, for example. (For the memo itself go here: www.downingstreetmemo.com ) I get damn near giddy when I leave articles around campus, the idea that someone might come across a seed of truth just because I can hit print elates me.

Sure you are technically littering, but I don't think the truth is garbage.

17. Thanks Melodybe!
First - Excellent rant! I've finally gotten this through to a friend of mine - he was trying the "in-your-face, aggressive lecture" technique. Took me a year to get him to see it just turned people off, and they would never hear what he was saying.

Draw the flies first with honey, then give em some meat to chew on. ;)

Second - Kudos for all your hard work! I'm not much of a writer either, and my web skills are mostly non-existent. I can protest though, and help organize here in Portland.

28. Count me in in LA
I have always thought the perfect action (when people are ready) is to march on the TV stations and throw our TV sets at the front gate. If anybody remembers the old SCTV sign on -- it was beautiful, TV sets flying out of the windows of an apartment block. This bit of anarchism is a little too weird for this first effort, but I hope to participate in TV TRASH IN someday.

I love this idea of a nationally co-ordinated march!
