My intolerant republican uncle ripped off my bumper sticker
Edited on Sat Jul-09-05 02:25 AM by lynch03
Ok, my uncle is one of those guys who will never talk politics but his stance his clear. Anytime a political discussion ensues he either attempts to change the subject or retreats to another location. He is unwilling to substantiate his views , which really pisses me off since he has such audacity. I had a bumper sticker on the back of my car that I acquired from moveon.org, it was something like.. "Mission Accomplished, (slash through it) Nothing accomplished, defeat bush in 04.

Well as we were tailgating before a sox game on the fourth of july unbeknownst to me at the time, that bastard ripped the sticker off my car. That pussy , that coward, I thought to myself. The guy isn't even willing to subject himself to a political discussion and in anyway justify his beliefs but he has the audacity to just rip the sticker off my property, what a fucking douche bag. Nothing pisses me off more then someone who holds strong political beliefs yet is not in anyway willing to justify them, it proves how blind, and ignorant they are. It reminds me so much of blind faith in religion.

In a way it was a good thing, seeing as though the sticker was pretty old and outdated thus the reason I am going to replace it with a more vicious and radical one solely to piss him off.

I was originally going to go with one I saw entitled "The path to hell is swarming with Republicans" or something of that nature. But there are good Republicans and I thought that was just to much of a sole devotion to piss my uncle off, it really didn't' contain something I wanted to convey.

So I thought of something else that I thought was pretty good. I haven't seen it on any website so I have no idea how I'd go about making it. It's as follows,
WTC 9-11-01
Reichstag 2-27-33
excuses, excuses

That accomplishes both pissing off my war mongering uncle and conveying a pretty good point. Anyone know how I'd go about producing this, have anymore ideas as to what I should put on my car.. any general comments welcomed.. Just a rant/question.

Because I will do it. :)

Personally, I like my signature. I think they have those selling as t-shirts and bumper stickers somewhere.

2. better make that "Reichstag"
no spelling excuses. It is e before i except after c. A printing shop can make one, but they probably have a minimum order requirement. I have a friend in Wisconsin who was making bumperstickers in 2001.

9. I should have
Seeing as though I'm only 18 and he's like 35 and were close with his branch of the family it'd kinda make things awkward and damaging to a lot of relationships. If he wasn't my uncle and if I wasn't good friends with his kids, I wouldn't even think about beating him down ( I would it in a second). In fact I'd probbly right Bush sucks all over his head and stomach or something. He also did it during the ONLY time I left the area what a coward.

34. Unfortunately, we can't pick our families ...
A word to a already wise young adult. I've been the pinko liberal black sheep of my family since I could formulate a coherent political position in High School.

Sure, get another sticker - but - if you still love your Uncle more than you hate his political views, just watch you're right wing family from the outside looking in.

My point, if you are outnumbered, especially by Right Wingers, you just can NOT win and they will disrespect you behind your back.

I love my family but hate their politics. And yes, they are ruthless. Only for them, I mix once in a while but don't speak out lest I'd be completely ostracized.

It's up to you of course, but if you like other aspects of your Uncle's personality and don't want to break the bonds of family, just leave politics out of the mix at family gatherings.

I know, it's seemingly always us progressives that must give in. However, now that I'm in my mid forties, my conscious of treating my elder relatives with respect outweighs politics. Both my mother and older brother are terminally ill ... Therefore, I'm thankful that I shed political discussions within my family at least ten years back. I hurt emotionally and will grieve, but I feel no guilt for any left over animosity between immediate family members and myself. Life's just too short.

Just some thoughts from an old broad who's family is chock full of truly kool-aid drinking secular right wingers. Take what you wish. :-)

43. It works both ways or not at all.
Why would you allow yourself to be cowed like that? My family is a bunch of freaky wing nuts BUT they know if they bring up politics they will get their asses handed to them by my and so we just don't go there. If they insisted on my listening to their bullshit without me adding my opinion they would have seen me for the last time years ago.

Arm yourself with the truth and never apologize for it.

62. Well, these are my family, I didn't choose them ...
I don't even have to like them, but I do honor, love and respect their kindness toward me. Politics be damned when you are talking good brothers and nurturing parents. I shed my politics because it allows me to live in peace with my family.

If you don't understand the above, a little part of you will feel empty. But if all you wish for is "both ways" then your way is the answer.

in tose situations. To me that is a good relationship and a sign of love between family. If my family members thought it was OK to bully me and refuse to discuss things with me respectfully I would not put much stake in them.

Edited on Sun Jul-10-05 01:13 PM by ElectroPrincess
Respectfully, I don't think you know what you will do with blood relatives until you're faced with their aging and a terminal illness.

As I grow older, and I hope wiser, I cut them much slack and just love the good things about them. They will not pile on and bully me if we don't talk politics.

To me, family tops personal and personality types. They are mine and I'm theirs ... when times are tough, we're the first ones there for each other.

Yes, I humble myself and often swallow my pride JUST because they cared for me as a child. That is the way I believe is CORRECT FOR ME to honor my elders.

My mom told me afterwords to avoid confrontation, she initially blamed it on my uncles 3 year old daughter then told me the truth after I furtherly questioned about it on the way home.. I haven't seen my uncle since, you know this guy is a HUGE WHITE SOX FAN, probably one of the biggest in the Country, He has all this memorabilia and signed pictures in his basement, maybe i'll take some of his stuff and have some unfortunate accident with it because it didn't really conform with my own personal convictions, that'll show that jack ass. I don't even care about the fucking sticker it's just the principal of the matter, you don't do that to other peoples property.. How about I go to his house and strip his wall paper off because I didn't like it, what a fucking jerk my uncle is.

If MONEY is tight, I can tip you to something I did once:
PhotoShop a FAKE "thank-you letter" from a LIBERAL Org.
saying that you donated $100 IN HIS NAME.

FAKE an envelope, and send it to him.

And make it look fake. Put it over his REAR plate. We did this to a redneck at work. The plate said "I (heart) cock". He drove around with it for a week before a cop pulled him over, and gave him a lecture about creating his own plates. He wondered why he was getting all those strange looks when driving.

that was accosted by two freepjobs near his rural home in Montana just before the elections. One of them tore the Kerry bumper sticker off his car while calling him a litany of cliches commonly used by these nutjobs to belittle liberals. So what did this old liberal do? Shot the guy in the face with his staple gun (he had been putting up signs) and then punched him, sending him sprawling to the ground. Both freepers exited the scene quickly, never to be heard from again.

Now THAT is how you handle these bastards. Bwahahaha...

23. Instead of the bumper sticker
do as some others are doing. Make a sign or even take shoe polish and simply write the number of dead in Iraq. Write only the number and nothing else. Update it often.
Chances are good that your uncle will have no clue what it refers to. If he ever does figure it out and tries to clean it off (which is why you write it on the inside of your back window and try to keep the car locked) you can simply pull your bottle of shoe polish out of the glove compartment and neatly write the number back in while he is watching.
Plus, it's a great conversation piece w/ strangers. I've done it w/ the number of soldiers and have had people stop me at gas stations. Some have been positive, some negative and others have said "It really doesn't seem like it has been that many...".
Makes people think and much cheaper than buying a bumper sticker.

50. What is it about repugs? I was hosting a family picnic on the 4th.
One of the granddaughters invited her boyfriend to the event. His mother and father dropped him off on their way to another event. Now my whole family (unfortunately repugs aplenty - mostly the in-laws) were sitting under the car port and in the yard when the boyfriend's family pulls into the drive. (Just for the record - I don't know this family at all.) The father, in the driver's seat, spots my Kerry/Edwards and DU bumper stickers. He rolls down his car window and yells over everyone (loud but real "friendly" like), "If you want some real bumper stickers I'll be glad to give you some of mine." Car covered in "W" sh*t, flags and magnets.

The repugs in the family rolled their eyes, hoping (praying probably) that I would just keep my mouth shut and not embarrass the granddaughter or the boyfriend. My objective wasn't to embarrass anyone but the guy needed straightening out. I just smiled (extra friendly-like) and politely yelled back, "No thanks. I prefer people who tell the truth, don't kill soldiers for sport and can balance a checkbook. If you ever decide to get your head out of you ass about Bush come back to see me, I'll share MY stash of bumper stickers with you."

Even the repugs in the family laughed as he hastily rolled up his window and beat a hasty retreat. Did the guy honestly think he was coming to my house and critize my political beliefs and not get a slap down?

As Jon Stewart would say, "Baby steps." One repug at a time.

54. Confront your uncle in front others. Ask him about the bumper sticker.
Ask him why he doesn't agree with the concept of free speech. Don't let him change the subject. Just calmly say don't change the subject. ask him why is it okay for him to destroy other people's property. Embarass him.

55. I agree, Lone_wolf
I've read so many threads that begin with describing the actions of a fundie relative or neighbor, but end with the poster saying " I didn't say anything but..." It makes me want to reach through the computer screen so I can shake them and yell "FIGHT BACK"!

56. Reminds me of the sticker on our Harley...
"You touch my bike, I'll fuck your dog!" We were at a Mexican restaurant not long ago and were seated next to a window where we could keep an eye on the bike. Along came an old woman and her husband. They stopped and looked at the bike and the old lady was shakin' her head and then took a card out of her purse and laid it on the seat. My husband jumped up, went out and got the card and came back inside to where the couple had sat down. The card was some xtian bullshit about getting saved. He flipped it in her face. Asshole rightwing xtians! You should have seen their faces...priceless. I think they both pissed their depends!

57. Kill him with kindness
This gives me an opportunity to think about what I would do if this ever comes up ( I still have a Kerry sticker on my car) "Thanks Uncle Nutcase. That was outdated and I was meanin' to pull it off but jus never got 'round to it. I got some great new ones to put on. Wanna see um?" Try this if your uncle ever does it again. It will be the last time.

59. Put another on. It's always good to change your message anyway, keeps
the neighbors from getting bored. I have 3 right now..."Bush keeps lying, people keep dying", "Support the troops, Impeach Bush" and "Bush ain't no Christian". I put them on magnets so if I have to take them off for some reason, wedding, funeral, car repair in a redneck zone, I can do so.

66. It is pretty spineless what your uncle did...
One thing you could do, if he has a birthday or some occasion where he is to receive a gift, you could:

a) Find all the anti-Bush/ Pro-Democrat stickers you can and wrap them up as a present (Since he liked your "Nothing Accomplished" sticker so well).

b) "Wrap" his gift in anti-Bush/ Pro-Democrat stickers. I did this to my Boyfriend's Republican Dad. I used "Kerry/Edwards '04" stickers instead of scotch tape.

C) All of the above.

--Just a thought. :)

67. Want some spray paint?
I'd say spray your bumper sticker all over his house or his car. I am sure the graffiti writers would be glad to comply.
