I'm a long-timer here who doesn't post much, but I have followed Andy's story and all the insuing shit that has come about as a result of good people trying to help someone in need. These people are filth and deserve to go down, and Will, I think you're just the man to take it on.

Not very long ago, someone did something to me that was so foul, so unutterably, unbelievably horrific that I have never gotten over it. It destroyed my life and practically destroyed me. I did not know Andy personally, and what I knew of him came to me by way of DU. I donated twice to his fund, because I knew what Andy was desperately trying to achieve, he was doing so in all of our names.

The pathetic, evil tactics exhibited by Andy's enemies were breathtakingly disgusting. I was very saddened and angered by what transpired, and again, I didn't know him personally.

I can't imagine the rage that must be rushing to the surface for those of you who were Andy's closest allies.

These people need to know the definition of the word "consequence."

I have no doubt you will achieve your mission, Will. And, as you are doing so, we here at DU will take great comfort and satisfaction knowing that for a large part, like Andy, you will be doing it on behalf of all of us who admired Andy and who know the real value of justice and equity.

In addition to the hateful posts and sites that doubted Andy's serious illness, a real harm was done when one - or more, I don't know - complained to paypal that the fund raising was a fraud, caused a delay in disbursing the money and a consequence delay in Andy's surgery. This, after the surgeons, upon viewing his medical records, moved his scheduled surgery one month ahead. Every day counted yet, because of the paypal intervention, Andy's surgery was delayed by a week - if I remember correctly - when every day counted. So you could say that the ones behind the paypal scam - but not the hateful posts, I would think - hastened Andy's death.

But I agree with Amazona that if there are grounds for a lawsuit - if the perpetrators can be identified - that airing these in public could be counterproductive. I am not a lawyer so really don't know. We do know that freepers and others do read DU, apparently are homing on threads like this one.

I have always loved and admired your passion and your lack of fear in speaking your mind, but in this case I urge some caution lest you become consumed by the desire for revenge. Andy's passing has been a very stressful time for all of us and anger is an understandable and important part of the grieving process.

However, we must find a way to grieve without invoking any imagery of phyical harm (even if intended metaphorically), to anyone -- ANYONE -- even people who have been unkind to Andy in the past, and even people who are being unkind today.

Please continue to express your emotions on this matter and on other matters, but kindly do so in full compliance of the rules, and with full respect for other members, even if they do not extend the same courtesy.
