1. Thought it was a sex thread from the headline.
Upper Midwest here. We are incredibly dry, headed for the driest year on record. Our next hope of rain is for Dennis to track all the way up here.
Thank God ol' Dub-ya didn't cave in to those global warming freaks.

3. I'm debating whether to go out or not.
We have a DEC meeting in 2 hours, and it's almost an hour drive over there. I could just cancel out, but I'm supposed to speak for a congressional candidate, and make some other important announcements.

Just got a report of a tornado touching down at Port of Tampa.

Fla. baby boom may be hurricane aftershock

>>Says Allan, a 41-year-old forklift operator: "Our power was out for three days. What else were we going to do?"

In Orlando, which was slapped by Charley, Frances and Jeanne, deliveries at Winter Park Memorial were up 26 percent from May 20 to June 7, compared with the same period in 2004.

The Florida Hospital in Orlando saw a 24 percent spike in May; Central Florida Regional, in nearby Sanford, and Health Central, in the neighboring city of Ocoee, reported similar increases.

And in Daytona Beach, deliveries shot up 25 percent at the Halifax Medical Center in late May, and 21 percent for the month of June, according to Kate Holcomb, a hospital spokeswoman.

6. Such stories always baffle me
Do couples suddenly suspend use of birth control just because there's a hurricane outside? Our decision to have a child was not based upon the weather report, in fact, it took us more than a decade to finally decide to do it, after much rumination. It's a very serious decision to bring another life into this world -- I'm always intrigued by those who take it so lightly.

And BTW, I lived in Florida for 7 years, I understand those long, dark, scary weekends with no electrical power! LOL Flashlights come in very handy for locating the birth control, though (for most methods).

12. I have no idea.
It doesn't seem to make much sense, does it?

But...

Your post did jog me into wishing I hadn't posted so flippantly in response to DrPhool. It's starting to really kick up out there and is just going to deteriorate as time passes today.

I need to practice some post control.

14. Aw, soup, don't feel bad
I remember being in a dark house in the woods in Florida, no electricity, and 100mph winds causing 100-foot trees to bend and sway violently over my house... believe me, humor is vital at times like that! I hope your post brought a smile to DrPhool's face, as it did mine.

PS The only 100-foot tree that actually uprooted during that storm was right next to our bedroom window... and it fell away from our house. Whew! Our thoughts are with everyone in that region right now. It's a beautiful place to live until, well, like... right now.

7. follow your instincts about going out but it looks bad on the news shows
I've weathered several hurricanes in Florida. A mild blow is manageable. I just saw pictures of Ft. Lauderdale and it looks like it's time to stay indoors away from flying debris.

I would suggest that you postpone an hours drive away from home if you can!
