2. ALL PREDICTIONS CALL FOR RECORD TURNOUT
for a "special election" that is. Still unbelievable to me that if the recall passes the winner could have 15% of the vote.

This means if the recall passes narrowly, say 51-49% ,
and the new gov wins with 15% of the vote

three times more people will have voted against the recall than for the new governor.

Those wascally wepubwicans.

4. i don't think it's private
there was a story in the news a few days ago, when the appeals court decision was still tentative, saying that the number of absentee ballots being returned had fallen precipitously because of the uncertainty.

i went to a training session for election officers last night, and the trainer announced what the current number was for our county. i don't remember the actual number, but i think it was about 1/3 of the total number of absentees sent out. the point was that we have to be prepared for a lot of the others - the 2/3 - to show up at the polls on election day, wanting to cast their absentee ballot.

if there is going to be a record turnout, it's gonna be a long day for poll workers. we were instructed that because of the unusual format of the ballot cards (one race occupying parts of 3 cards), the ballots will require an extra manual processing step... this will add hours to the time that poll workers have to serve.

5. depends on the weather
I'm betting that many of the new pro-Ahhnold voters aren't hardcore about voting.

If the weather is crappy, or something else comes up, they are likely to just stay home and watch it on tv.
