Did I just hear an ad on AA for a HUMMER???
Edited on Sat Jul-09-05 11:23 AM by brooklynite
I was listenting to a repeat of Al Franken on WLIB when an ad came on about winning a Hummer 3! It was done by the same announcer who does ads for Mother Jones, so I figured there was a witty satirical twist coming at the end, but it turned out to be a prize in a circulation ad for... the NEW YORK POST! I'd love to know what advertising genius told them this was a good use of their money...

2. Look at it this way. They're WASTING their money.
How many AA listeners are going to buy a Hummer or subscribe to the NY Compost?

3. That's not as weird
as hearing Army Reserve commercials on AAR.

THAT really throws me for a loop...

4. Somewhere, there's a corporate ad placement person
who's on our side.

"Jeez, Boss. Here's a little network with 40% of the listeners in that market % Lincoln hasn't found it yet!"

6. I think the Hummer marketing people are unusually confused
They have an "animated" ad for Hummer in one of the Chicago subways---Hellooo, people who use public transportation are a good target market for Hummers? Let 'em burn up their ad money.

7. Democrats drive Hummers
On the other hand, 62.9 percent of all Hummer H1 sport-utility vehicles are owned by Republicans, 10.2 percent by Democrats, and 57.6 percent of all Hummer H2s are owned by Republicans, 22.6 percent by Democrats.

From a business perspective, why blow off (sorry for the pun) 32.8% of your potential buyers?

8. Well, I know I am going to get flamed for this,
but I really like those Hummers. I would feel so secure driving in it. But I will never buy one because I can't afford it or the gas.

9. If I had my dream property...
I would get a hummer to roam the range.... the old military style!

I would also fire my weapons liberally out the window of my hummer.

11. I once read that a russian vehicle called an UAZ
Edited on Sat Jul-09-05 11:56 AM by acmejack
Was the ultimate off roadie. It was said to be the preferred vehicle of columbian drug lords at the time. It's sole design criteria was to be able to go where tanks the tanks went. Extremely ugly, they resembled a cross between a jeep and a 56 chevy.

10. I think there's a new, smaller Hummer? Maybe they're aiming for...
a different kind of customer for it?
