"Minutemen" (their wives call 'em that) to Patrol Streets of HOUSTON!

Minutemen headed here warned they, too, will be watched
Rights groups, archbishop say border watchers aren't welcome

The local Catholic archbishop and immigrant rights activists want to roll up the welcome mat before the Minutemen arrive to patrol for illegal immigrants in Houston.

The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, an organization working to stop the flow of illegal immigrants, announced this week that it would send observers to watch day laborers in Houston beginning in October. Previous plans called for placing patrols only along the Mexican border.

3. These jackasses are going to find that Texas is a whole 'nother country

A friend of mine who studies and writes about the Borderlands is pretty sure the Tejanos in South Texas (where a huge chunk of our Dem voters are located, too) won't put up with their shit. They had to cope with the terrorist TX Rangers for generations, so it's certain they can deal with these fat white racist fucks.

anyone coming up from Mexico will fill the churches in the dioceses in Texas. Most are Roman Catholic. That is probably the main factor, with the human rights stances right behind.

The Archbishop has a statement on immigration in the second half of his most recent pastoral letter:
http://www.diogh.org/BishopPastorals/bishops_fiorenza_recent.asp

A new “guest worker” program will not be a serious improvement over the old “guest worker” experiment in the 1950’s. Without a path to legal residency and the protection of workers’ rights and a just wage, there is no recourse against the abuse and horrible living conditions the “guest workers” of the past had to endure. Our Monsignor Joe Crosthwait, followed the migrant trails throughout the country for three years as a representative of the United States Bishops. He was an eye witness to the terrible abuse inflicted on “guest workers.”

Because Americans are fair-minded people, polls are beginning to show that many understand that there should be a way for undocumented immigrants to earn legal status. These hardworking people help us to harvest our crops, build our homes, service our hotels and restaurants, clean our buildings, cut the grass and beautify our gardens, as well as serve as domestic help. Fair-minded people are realistic about the great dependence of the United States on immigrant help for us to maintain our standard of living and compete in the world trade market. These “guest workers” should have access to permanent residency and the benefits of law afforded to other workers.

Is this “amnesty” for those who are here illegally? It is no more an “amnesty” for them than it is for those who have illegally hired them for years without legal sanctions. However, in the reform of immigration laws, the immigrant workers would pay a fine for their undocumented status and would have to meet work requirements for several years before becoming eligible for permanent residency.

6. They are only enforcing existing laws that these 'PC' politicians
and local officials refuse to enforce but since they don't want to enforce immigration laws just remove them from the books. By the way I'm sick of reading and hearing some delusional nut play the race card every time a certain group is detained yet when Russians,Cubans,Nigerians,Canadians,Asians etc are detained for the same violation they remain mute.

We either have immigration laws or we don't it shouldn't be enforced against the people I named above and not against the particular group I didn't.

7. This is like those fundies getting anxious when shown their hypocrisy
that their divorce rates are as high as anyone's. They went out and started covenant marriages.

Now we have minutemen - I wonder what anxiety are they trying to cover? Perhaps the lack of funding for cities and not volunteering for the war they like.
