A big THANKYOU from Britain (joint statement from UKDUers)
We, the British members of the Democratic Undergound community, would like to express our thanks for the sympathy, kindness, and concern we have seen here since the attacks in London.

This is of course a terrible time for our country. But we've stood together before and we'll stand together again. Not in some dreadful crusade, but in a shared hope for peace.

Thanks, guys.

Signed Bennywhale, Fedsron2us, Julianer, Mr Blur, Muriel Volestrangler, Non Sociopath Skin, Taxloss, Thankfully_In_Britain, and Vladimir.

We're the REAL America here on DU.

Former Richmond University student here! Loved London when I went to school there, and still do! Hope to be living in the UK permanently within the next five years. Keep her safe for me until I can join you over on that side of the Atlantic! :-)

104. The Queen made every effort to make herself present ...
Where in the world was Bush on 9/11?

In addition, the Brits, including the government, for the most part, behaved with dignity, unlike many Americans, who turned it into a media circus.

The crap that Faux news spews is just that...

The madness hasn't reached us, nor will it ever.

Believe me when I say that most Americans deplore
what our so-called government is doing and are deeply
sympathetic to the tragedy that you have undergone
recently.

Peace

I have a friend in the UK who had been at the Live 8 concert last weekend, staying with his friend in London. And the double decker bus which exploded was just a block away from that friend's apartment.

So I'm just glad that people I know are safe, and that the death toll wasn't more than it is.

35. I must say I admire the British for the way they handled this horrific
event. I even have to grudgingly say that Tony Blair has behaved in a manner which goes to show what a scheming rotten lying opportunistic cretin we have running our country. He at least has shown decency, decorum, and a resolve to move forward without capitalizing on the situation, unlike Mr. 911 (the guy we have currently squatting in the White House).

Must be the famous 'stiff upper lip' think that you British are all known for.

It's so nice that you are thanking people for their support. But like during WWII, I think we need to thank you people for your courage and resolve and showing the world how to deal with a great national tragedy.

Oh, and by the way, I would like to say right now that the scum suckers like Brit Hume and Rush Limbaugh are not representative of my countrymen, not representative of me. They belong to an exclusive club of people who demonstrate that true White Trash do not dwell in trailers, watch NASCAR, or live at or below the poverty line.

54. I told Nic Coleman on Air America that the best thing we can do...
is to clean our own house. Terrorists can't get at the leaders who are ordering the unjust war on Iraq and other places, so they attack the people instead.

I'm so sorry your country has had to endure this attack on innocent people when the real culprits responsible for inciting the attacks go unpunished.

I hope if we get our Country straightened out, then a lot of this terrorism will die down, because first of all you have to stop killing people if you want them to talk to you instead of throwing bombs at you.

Britain's showed both america europe why we like you so much .

I'm in london every few weeks , would be interesting to meet someone .Also seeing as there are a lot of europeans here , who generally have common ideas on policy .Do you think you could create a european group or , thread , and talk on european stances , regarding both the US and Eu .

I might be out of it , on this one , but i'm a newbie , so i guess i can slide my possible mistake under the veil of inexperience .

62. Alert now for another bomb on bus in Manchester! I suspect
the British police must have been getting close to the perpetrators
in London and this may be a ploy to divert their attention away from
those located in London.

That Zarkowi (sp) or was it Al Zarwahi (sp) encouraged followers recently to attack Europe, Egypt and the West.

So we have the terrible fate of the Eyptian Ambassador, travesty in London, and now I would be concerned for other capitol cities like Paris and in the USA.

These are mad dogs.

I hope they're guarding the chunnel extra, extra. That injury would be unimaginable and unsurvivable!!

66. I haven't seen much news but I think so far it seems like you will not
misuse the sympathy everyone feels for your country. I think you'll do the right thing all the way. And win the battle on terrorism by winning hearts & minds.

71. Thank you, Taxloss
I'm comforted by your participation here, and grieve for the loss of Britain. It is different when it happens close to you, and Britain is a next door neighbour to Norway.

May you live in peace now, rest and get back to normal life again :-)

80. I am thinking of you all. I am so sorry for what happened.

My Scots-Irish (many times) great grandfather (Robert Patton) came from Ireland and settled in the North Carolina Mountains in the 1700s. My ancestors were Scottish and were kicked out of Scotland and then out of (northern) Ireland and then made their way to the Southeastern US via the port of Wilmington, NC.

I have visited England. I was only in London, though. I had a wonderful time. The city was beautiful and everyone I met was so nice. An employee of the Government (an accountant), who worked in Whitehall near the British Museum, bought me a beer (a Yorkshire bitter, of course!) and inquired as to how I was enjoying my visit to your lovely country. I had such a great time in London.

My love and best wishes go out to all of you in England and to all of the injured and to all of families of the victims.

94. I was very impressed by the response of people in London, saying that
they would survive and continue on, that they would not allow it to change their way of life. That is what we should have said after 9/11. Very impressed and very sympathetic to all Londoners.

96. You're Very Welcome, Glad You Guys Are Okay
I was, however, rather pissed off with the wankers in this country who didn't fly their damned flags at half-staff out of respect and sympathy for y'all. Unless I'm badly mistaken, Britain flew the Union Jack at half-staff for a couple of days after 9/11. Least we coulda done over here is to return that gesture of sympathy, respect, and friendship and solidarity.

Then again, I'm not sure I'm entirely surprised that a bunch of wankers here didn't lower their flags to half-staff. I'm sad to say many of my countrymen and women do not feel the pain of others.

Know that I lit a candle in church this morning for all of you Londoners who were affected by this heinous act of cowadice against your country, and I have sent lots of my good karma, positive energy, and prayers your way.

I can only hope that those responsible will eventually be brought to justice...that they will answer for this unspeakable act. And I sincerely hope Tony Blair proves to be a better statesman, and healer and uniter, in this time of your country's need...than George Bush proved to be in our time of need. For us, we were only "united" as long as Bush got everything he wanted. As soon as anyone stood up to him and said, "hey, wait a minute..." the party was over. I hope Blair proves to be a better leader in your time of need.

97. I just got back from vacation in the tiny little town of
Bird Island Minnesota, a rural farming town with a population of about a thousand.

I saw not one but two folks there with "Mind the Gap" subway shirts the day after the attacks.

There are a lot of people here in the U.S. that have you in their prayers and thoughts.

Peace

98. Words of wisdom from four centuries ago...
No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend's or of thine own were. Any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

John Donne, 1624

101. I had a Guinness in Oxford once.
The head on it was very staid, and the tapper was shaped like a shamrock cookie cutter; the bartender stamped the shamrock right into the foam, where it stayed until I was almost finished drinking the pint.

Cheers to friends across the pond. :toast:

Of course Rush Limbaugh says the attacks were not successful because the death toll was so small ( :wtf: ), but we know there is much suffering there right now.

I admire the resiliency of the British in the face of adversity!

108. There is just no way to fight this sort of thing...not in any city in the
world that has an underground transport system. We have all come to need these systems as our populations grow. Best thing to do is just get on with our lives...and it is certainly the role of government to see that these systems are as safe as possible.

Best wishes to all our British friends and their families.
