Fox News slammed over 'callous' line
Julian Borger in Washington
Saturday July 9, 2005
The Guardian

Rupert Murdoch's Fox News channel was under fire yesterday for comments by some of its leading journalists in response to the London bombs.
Speaking about the reaction of the financial markets, Brit Hume, the channel's Washington managing editor, said: "Just on a personal basis ... I saw the futures this morning, which were really in the tank, I thought 'hmm, time to buy'."

The host of a Fox News programme, Brian Kilmeade, said the attacks had the effect of putting terrorism back on the top of the G8's agenda, in place of global warming and African aid. "I think that works to our advantage, in the western world's advantage, for people to experience something like this together, just 500 miles from where the attacks have happened."

Another Fox News host, John Gibson, said before the blasts that the International Olympic Committee "missed a golden opportunity" by not awarding the 2012 games to France. "If they had picked France instead of London to hold the Olympics, it would have been the one time we could look forward to where we didn't worry about terrorism. They'd blow up Paris, and who cares?" He added: "This is why I thought the Brits should let the French have the Olympics - let somebody else be worried about guys with backpack bombs for a while."

1. Fox News surprised me
Not that I don't think they would have these feelings; I was just surprised at them being dumb enough to say them outloud. usually they show a lot more media savvy than that.

4. I wonder what CNBC had to say about it.
Maybe they would have gotten away with the futures comment.

And screw Gibson - as far as I can tell, he's just another Fox asshole.

6. I read somewhere recently that Brit Hume's son was murdered for continuing
I don't remember where I read it, may have been on Cloak and Dagger which seems to have disappeared - they had a radio show too and think it was from Canada. One of their reporters was from a prominent family and after he announced or wrote that the Oligarchy (Bilderberg?) were in Civil War mode over Iraq and Bush, despite his families connections, the police broke into his home, roughed him up and jailed him for possession of small amount of marijana and Cloak and Dagger fired him and this reporter said he had found the glass ceiling of what you can report even on a left wing site.

It may have been on another site that I read that several years ago, Brit Hume's son who was also a broadcast journalist was pursuing a story negative to the Bush Crime Family and was murdered.

I also read that Cokie Roberts was betraying her father's legacy in her right-wing propaganda. Her father was on the Warren Commission, felt guilty later for his coverup and his small plane was downed near or in Alaska and the Coast Guard refused to follow-up on reports of the wreckage on land near the ocean by citizens.

The reports of the Fox News unbelievable callousness should be reported again and again. I don't watch TV but people have suggested instead of writing to Media Whores directly or even the head of the network, and I guess the FCC would be equally useless that people write to their advertisers.

There are so many companies that donate more to Repubs than Dems and you can't boycott everyone but I think that smaller, targeted campaigns against the foulness of the media would be helpful.

I have read that these right-wingers use the public airways and make billions but wonder just what public airways means and a few paragraphs or links to what the obligations of the media are by law and the details of profit making of the use of public airways.

8. Thank you London journalists, for reminding us what it's like to
have someone in the media actually standing up and voicing a responsible public view.
