Is Blair making sense?

ONDON, England (AP) -- British Prime Minister Tony Blair said it is crucial to address terrorism's underlying causes, which he identified as deprivation, lack of democracy and ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

1. Well now... seems like reality is setting in for little Tony.... now he
will have to explain things to the one dimensional thinker, shrub.

2. It's about time!
Frankly, I'm surprised it hasn't hit him before this.

He's right. Finally.

5. Is he trying to play both sides of the fence?
Straddling that fence will take more skill than he's got. I say he gets the blister.

6. Well it is a good thing that the lights are finally coming on but it is a
bit late in the game to give the guy any credit. Except to say that if it was bush** you'd see his squinty-eyed pointy-earred drooling countenance on the tube capitalizing on the event like he has 911. At least blair, whore that he is, hasn't done that.

7. In this "you're with us or against us" world that Bush has encouraged...
...where people are either good or evil, I think a lot of people who think of themselves as progressives have been suckered into seeing the world as Bush wants them to see it and they haven't seen that this has been the focus of the British Labour party for a while now.

9. The "third way" speaks. He must have talked to Clinton & Lieberman.
Now that you've helped your daddy destroy Iraq, you're trying to cover your sorry ass by sounding like you have a brain attuned to anything other than perpetuating yourself in office.

Sorry a. yes.
lots of big farts doing their "get it all you can" number.

There seems to be an ethical element missing in all most all politics..hard to define.

17. Actually, he does have a brain,
attuned to something other than perpetuating himself in office. He doesn't intend to stay in office and, I think, will go sooner than intended. Understand, he is not a moron, or a lunatic, or a religious fanatic or very much like Bush at all. He has done good things for the UK. But he lost the plot with appalling results. He now has blood on his hands and I would guess that it bothers him a great deal more than it does Bush. But that's no excuse. He should go tomorrow.

14. Why is he pushing the "lack of democracy" meme?
I can't go along with that. I believe that cultures develop according to the wishes of the people and how it relates also to events beyond their control, such as other countries desiring to possess their land or resources. Maybe some cultures prefer a benign theocracy (is there such a thing?) or a royal lineage of rulers. I'm not well-versed in history to argue the point, I'm just bringing it up because I think this "democracy" theme is a loser.

As for conflict, well, duh. We're over there stirring the pot and adding to the conflict. As long as so-called leaders are more interested in power and profit than they are in finding a true resolution by which everyone benefits, the vicious cycle of aggression and retribution will continue.

On the deprivation theme, absolutely. I cannot even begin to imagine what good we could do for the deprived if we would spend even half the money improving their lives as we do towards destroying them.

I despise both bush and blair.

for the democracy, and aggression and aggravation for the ME conflict

20. This seems like such an obvious idea.
If something is bothering you, don't you figure out what it is, why it's happening, and how you can stop it?

Bush's war on terror is, as Ed Schultz says, like taking a bat to a hornets' nest. When they attack you from all sides as a result, is the solution really to use a bigger bat?
