I'm getting a little irritated by all of the newspeople and pundits who are saying that we in America had become too complacent until the London attacks. I find it insulting and snarky (imagine, someone on the news being insulting and snarky! I know...).
What do you mean?You say.
I was paying attention to my LIFE.
My LIFE. You know; that thing that terrorists and the NeoCons/Radical Right are trying to take away from me.
I'm sorry; I can't live my life on 24-hour alert; hugging the TV/Internet/Radio to see the latest update. So you're going to blame me for not being your slave? Screw you. I wasn't born to please you or anyone else; get it through your damn thick skulls for the five hundred millionth time.
Hell, as much as I love this website, I need to take time off to pay attention to WHY I'm being politically active in the first place; my family and my home; my freinds and my community.
While you are screaming and ranting there in the newsroom and on the hill and in the chamber, I am enjoying what is left of this lovely summer evening outside my door while my beautiful baby boy naps soundly in his crib; in my paid for house; while my husband goes to a job he loves. Hell yes I'm boasting; because I'm grateful and joyus and feel like sharing it. Got a problem? Why don't we discuss it over a nice Alexander Valley Merlot in the fading southern lavender light. I'll make a toast to Andy; wish he could have some with us. I'll savor that bittersweet reminder of the fleetingness of all this for a moment, and smile.
Stop and take a moment for yourself. Breathe.
Grab hold of what we're fighting for; THIS is it. Rub your face in it to remind you. Suck it into your lungs.
I'll meet you in a little bit to start the fight again, friend.
But don't call me complacent. I'm living. Get used to it; we've been doing it for years....
