My neighbor just told me my 6 month old son is probably gay.
As a parent I use music a lot to help my children relax, exercises and sleep. I have a two year old daughter and her favorite bands when she was a baby were Bob Marley and The Beatles, I would play Bob Marley in the morning and she would really get into it and at night I would play The Beatles and she would go right to sleep. Now that she is two she is more into pop but still listens to The Beatles at night.

Now my son is 6 months old and I had been trying drastically to find a band that he liked. Everything I tried produced the same results a fussy crying baby until I tried the Pet Shop Boys the kid loves it he can listen to it all day long and when it's time to go to bed he falls right asleep who would have thought anyone could sleep to New York City Boy.

Anyway I tell this to my neighbor and he just flat out tells me, "your son is gay." I was like wow, the Pet Shop Boys are gay??? I mean the song "The Night I Fell in Love" has a little bit of homosexual suggestion but gay?

Anyway just a funny story of my day.

1. Seems to me your neighbor's been just waiting for an excuse to insult you.
Edited on Sat Jul-09-05 09:23 PM by Straight Shooter
You need to ask him for a list of his record collection. Then you can throw a label on him, too.

edit: by "insult" I mean that's an insult in his mind, if you know what I mean.

It isn't an insult per se. It's an insult in the neighbor's mind, because of his motive and intention.

peel the banana completely before you eat it, or do you pull the peel down half way and take a bite?
No matter what his answer, tell him he better have a talk with a shrink because he has issues that need to come out.

4. When I was 6 or 8
I had to see a counselor for emotional problems.

The counselor, who was a great lady BTW, had talked to my mother. She posed this question: "What would you do if you found out your daughter was gay?" My mom replied that she would love me no matter what.

I still wonder to this day what I was doing that warranted that kind of thinking in my counselor.

23. I very rarely wore dresses
I always had my hair cut, even to this day I like it short. Oh sure I had it long for a while but I hated it. I am not the kind of person to doll myself up.

Oh and the tree thing is right, I loved climbing trees as a kid. I remember when I lived at these one apartments I climbed a tall evergreen all the way to the top and my mom had to coax me down. I wasn't afraid then. Now I am terrified of heights!!!

39. That's a silly reason for someone to think
Edited on Sat Jul-09-05 10:05 PM by FreedomAngel82
you're gay cause of how you dress. I remember when I was younger my cousin (she's a year younger then me)was VERY tomboyish. She even wore boy pants and hats and shirts etc and always wore her hair in a pony tail or her hat when she was a teenager (now she wears it down some too and it's pretty long). Now she's married to this guy and they share similiar interest's. She loves baseball and played and also does hunting now with him and has a hunting dog. :eyes: She isn't quite as tomboyish as she was but it's so silly to say someone who is tomboyish is gay. :eyes: There's also this woman at my church who is married to a guy and has a daughter (about four/five) and she has her hair really short and kinda spiked and she doesn't dress up either (she wears nice pants and things like that).

I am gay. I know I know, I haven't had sex yet and I am 25 but there is that inner thing, you know? I have always been attracted to females since my first pubertal urges. So it is confirmed, at least personally that I am gay.

I have no desire for men whatsoever, although they pop in my fantasies every now and then, in RL I get disgusted at the sight of a man's yahoo. I don't hate men themselves, I just don't like the idea of having sex with one.

6. I wouldn't let your son near your neighbor
He knows too many ways to turn people gay.

Anyway, you can't turn anyone gay unless you leave a cardigan sweater and a fern under their bed when they're sleeping. (Alternatively, a pair of leather chaps and a James Dean poster can work, too).

26. Here is a relevant article. Hilarious!

SCOTTSDALE, AZ—Citing "something vaguely effeminate" about his eight-month-old son Michael, first-time father Joe Oebrick, 32, reported Tuesday that he suspects the infant may be a homosexual.

"I love my son," Oebrick said. "But, you understand, I'm worried, too."

Among the many "small signs" that suggest that his son may be gay, Oebrick cited a home video in which the toddler crawls across the living-room carpet of the family's suburban Scottsdale home, wiggling his hips from side to side.

"I don't think it's normal for a baby to move like that," said Oebrick, wincing as the infant paused and flapped an arm in the air. "Don't you think that's a little strange?"

35. ROFL
A "friend" told me my son was gay when he was only 4 years old.

He's 14 now. Is he gay? I have no idea. But if he is, he knows he'll be accepted by us. We lead by example in that regard, with how we treat numerous friends and family members who are not heterosexual.

It never ceases to amaze me how arrogant and self-absorbed some people are. Or how many people think they have the right to proclaim such things about other people.

OH, funny coincidence: My son likes Pet Shop Boys too. Hmmmm.

Don't you know. Any guy who likes pop music is gay. :sarcasm: And for crying out loud he's six months old!!! :eyes: I'm guessing he likes the happy music and stuff that pop music mostly has.

46. I'm an old granny and I have helped raise a few grandkids.
They sing, they dance, they fall down and cry. Sometimes little boys don't want to go on the Merry-Go-Round because it is "too skewwwy" and often you can't keep the girls from climbing trees because they have no fear what so ever. They all play with trucks and dolls and love to dance and sing without reservation. Eventually they find the toys and hobbies they prefer and nothing you do will make any difference. They are individuals and they will make their choices. And you will love them either way. And if you can't, then it will be your loss.

53. Your neighbor is being a silly queen.
He knows better, but it's a thing many gay men love to assert, even though they know it's not operatively true: the kid likes pink? Pet Shop Boys? Culture Club? dolls? Well then he MUST be gay! A lot of gay men want everyone in the entire world to be gay.

54. My brother got a little boy's purple t-shirt from a relative of ours...
The person said, "It still fits my son, but it's too 'girly'. Here, I thought your son would like it."

wtf? What is it with people who say stuff like this? My brother was like, I could care less if my son is gay, but what hurts is that this person who is supposed to be my family said something like this to TRY to hurt me. With relatives or neighbors like this, you don't need enemies! :(

The Mikado. It doesn't mean he's going to grow up and dress like Yum-Yum or be Gay.

The fact that the Pet Shop Boys puts him to sleep in a clear indication of his heterosexuality.

Now if stayed awake dancing to the Pet Shop Boys until 3 or 4 AM, it could be an indication of possible grandness! :)

65. LMAO!
Um, I have STRAIGHT friends who are BIGGER PSB fans than I. It's just in jest, I think. Even if the child is "gay" there's nothing to worry about. There are lots of well-adjusted homos out here in the world doing just fine. :-)

66. Now I know
that my mom's Rolling Stones records when I was growing up turned me straight. I had always wondered how such a thing came to pass...

"Under my thumb, the girl who once had me down, under my thumb the girl who once pushed me around!'

Good stuff...

67. Hey... I like the PSB...
... and I'm not gay!!!

Geez this stereotyping of some types of music is quite stupid. These are the facts:

1) The PSB have been producing, writing and performing pop, techno and house music for 20 years.

2) Among their large catalog of songs, only a handful could be considered directly gay-oriented.

3) They are gay... but only one, the singer Neil Tennant is officially "out".

4) They have never considered themselves a "gay act".

The bottom line is that there are many, many gay musicians and artists around... but the last time I checked, being gay does not make their music gay.

As for young kids liking the PSB. Yes... you'll probably find that many young kids are responding to the heavy techno beat and the bright synth sounds.

70. I hope your neighbour was joking, but if not
Edited on Mon Jul-11-05 02:50 PM by tenshi816
then your neighbour is a a fool (dontcha wish they came with warning labels sometimes?).

It is a funny story though.

You've made me nostalgic. The Pet Shop Boys are part of my mental soundtrack when I think of 1986, the first summer I lived in the UK. I was listening to "West End Girls" just a couple of days ago, and Neil Tennant's birthday was yesterday!

Edited to say that my "neighbour as fool" comment was because of the idea that anyone could possibly predict a 6-month old baby's future sexual preferences. Now that I've read further and discovered the neighbour is gay and was joking, I feel silly.

your six month old son is probably gay because you play the Pet Shop Boys for him.

What are we to glean from this?

77. Regarding the bambino: Try Seal (any of the three CD's)
My kid had colic and the only thing that would chill her out was *Seal* (or oddly enough Blind Melon/SOMEtimes)

Regarding your neighbor -- what an asshole!

Maybe in 16 years and 6 months your son might know. Or 19 years, 6 months. Or 8 years, 6 months. Or 24 years, 0 months. Who knows?

He's human.

Your neighbor isn't.

And Queen. And Jesus Christ Superstar.

I don't THINK I'm gay. I think I just like early 80's modern rock and rock operas.

I like Tom Cruise, too. Not sure if I can come up with an excuse for that one, though.
