The Weather Channel just announced that Dennis now has winds of....
...135 mph, minimum pressure 937 mb.

Here's the info on Weather Underground:

I hope that everyone who can get out of the low-lying areas along the Gulf Coast from Mississippi to Pensacola, FL, has already gotten out.
If not, you don't have much time left to do so.

2. Stay safe to all DUers in Dennis' path.
I'm in St. Louis, and we're going to be feeling the effects of the hurricane in a couple days--rain late Monday and into Tuesday. This is powerful stuff.

3. This is now just catastrophic.
The power of this storm is very scary looking. Bravery is getting out of there now. It is a whirling tsunami now.

Gulf Coasters, please be safe! My prayers and good thoughts are with you and yours! :grouphug:

The 2004 season produced 16 named storms, including six major hurricanes. which was a record but I think this is a continuing pattern for many years, global warming causes
storms to dissipate heat for the planet's circulatory system.

This storm season is also the earliest occurrence of a Category 4 hurricane in the Caribbean, and possibly the U.S., meteorologists say. Tropical storms are how the planet distributes heat (energy) from the tropics to the rest of the planet.

6. It's going to make land-fall pretty close to us (south Mobile County)
It's getting scary and I don't know yet whether we'll stay, guess I'll decide in the morning. The County officials ordered a mandatory evacuation of the entire county today which surprised me, well I mean, that's the first time I've ever known that to happen anyway. They usually order partial county evacuations but not the entire county.

Well, best wishes for anyone effected by this, be safe and good luck.
I'm a little skeeerd though.

7. If you're going to stay (and I advise against it)
make sure to clear up any brush or loose objects like furniture. Anything that can be turned into a missle. Would you like to see what a 2x4 can do?

That was in a Category 5 with 175 mph winds.

8. DECIDE TO GO PLEASE!
Dark when it hits, dark for hours after and you won't be able to navigate the water, wind and debris. Please take shelter in the safest possible place - go inland PLEASE.

Good Thoughts are with you and yours, please, please be safe.

9. Be SAFE! Visit Birmingham or parts north.
This sucker is gonna hit Mobile and Pensacola hard ... Mobile hardest. It's already a Category 4 ... about 6-8 hours earlier than high wind increase projections. It's gonna hit land as a Category 4 at a minimum. That's nothing to fool with.

...over three years and had a few pass real close, most notably Opal.

When they ordered the entire county to evacuate, they must know it's going to hit there at full force.

12. I hope you all stay safe
If you're still there. That's one reason why I'm glad I don't live around the gulf area. And here people in the government want to take away the weather channel and make it private! For what reason? To lie about the weather? What would they do in this situation if the weather channel was private? I told my mother about what they wanted to do and she thought they were insane.
