"Hate" and "Evil"

Am I the only one who has noticed how these words have become commonplace in rhetoric after years of being reloegated to really bad fiction and movies?

1. Yes, I've certainly noticed it with 'hate'

I'd suggest replacing 'hate' with 'loathe'... I think it's a better word for the true feeling. There are many things I loathe, and very few I actually, truly hate. 'Evil' has become so commonplace, particularly the word 'evildoers'... ugh. That one should be reserved for comic villians :eyes:

2. I remember I laughed out loud the first time I heard W say "evildoers."

It was shortly after 9-11 and I saw the writing on the wall.

3. Yes, especially "evil".

The RW simple-minded types like to reduce everything to "good" and "evil". No "terrorist" ever has a *reason* for doing what he/she does. He does it because he's "evil." Like Magneto or Dr. Doom.

Never mind that an errant bombing run in Afghanistan looks an awful lot like a subway bombing in Madrid or London.

4. Yes I have

Hate is a very powerful feeling. The Necons know this and are using it as much as possible.

5. I had a good conversation with family about evil.

My mother who is an English teacher and familiar with Anglo history said the following.

"When crime was committed at English court, the defendant was quickly judged guilty and sentenced. It didnt matter what the motive was...they were just "evil"

And it was certainly a truthful revelation..

Look through Churchill's wartime speeches, and you're hard pressed to find the words "hate" and "evil".

11. Sadly true. "Evil" is particularly common now. Along with "traitor"...

which is applied at will with far too much ease by the radical right-wing these days.

I don't like what this nation is becoming.

12. I read Malcolm and Martin frequently.

They both used these words frequently. Like any word that has a significant level of power, these two words can be used or abused.
