He looked at Clark and said something to the effect: I welcome Clark to NY and welcome him to the Dem Party because it's better to have someone who just came to the party than those on this stage who have been acting more like Republicans. He's right: It's not a tax cut, it's a tax shift, and the "cut" means higher taxes everywhere else. Why does Kerry and some of the others keep acting like income tax is the only tax people pay?

that wouldn't be Al's style. He even specifically warned against personal attacks like that.

He did include people currently up on stage with them. It was a very pointed comment and it was obviously directed at one of the other nine.

I see the words "up here," but when he said that, the intonation did not seem to be pointing to others "on the stage."

As I said: had he done that, it would have been interpreted as a direct attack against others on the stage. It was clearly not taken that way, BY ANYONE, and Sharpton himself cautioned the others against making any such personal attacks.

Please read it again if you're still confused. It's not a quote.

What the hell else could "up here" mean? Geez. It was quite obvious to apparently everyone but you (based on other comments on DU this evening) that Sharpton was referring to the other candidates. Brian Williams wasn't "up here". The audience wasn't "up here". The people asking the questions weren't "up here". Who the hell else could he have been talking about?? Who?? I can't even believe I have to explain that to you.

If you're going to expect perfection out of other posters and critique them down to individual words, at least bother to read what they write first.

Edit: And, frankly, it was quite in line with other comments that he made. He's very quick and has a very sharp wit. He used it quite skillfully in this debate.
