L.A Shooting
Edited on Mon Jul-11-05 10:30 AM by ls317
A 17-month-old girl was killed Sunday night in a shootout between police and a gun-wielding man who held her in his arms on a South Los Angeles street as he shot and wounded a SWAT officer in the shoulder, authorities said. The suspect, identified as Jose Raul Lemos, also died at the scene.

"He was using the baby as a shield. Officers used as much restraint as humanly possible," said Assistant Chief Jim McDonnell of the Los Angeles Police Department. "We did our best. It was tremendous stress…. The suspect dictated the outcome." "Our deepest sympathies go to the family," he said.

4. Scratch another one up for the LAPD.
That's some fine police work there, Lou.

8. The officer could have been killed when he was shot,
and you're saying they didn't use enough restraint? How many more officers should have been shot? How about looky-loos who come outside to see what was going on?

This situation was unfortunate, but the officers were justified in ending the standoff, despite the loss of the girl's life.

9. If you are hiding behind a baby shooting at people.
Then you have not used enough restraint. I don't blame the cop.

10. Tough Call...
I am guessing that they tried the normal police playbook.. talk, attempt to reason with him..Yes it is a tragic event for all parties involved.I am sorry what does that say about a person that shoots and wounds police officer and then uses a child as a human shield.
????

7. A terrible terrible situation
I believe the baby is in a better place. But what a terrible thing for the cop to have to go through, the split second decision to let the guy shoot and you and civilians all around or bring him down. What a bummer.
