Senator Kerry email requesting money for Supreme Court fight - my letter
to him -

Senator Kerry -

I just received your email requesting support for the upcoming Supreme Court nominee fight.

Senator Kerry, I voted for you, I would vote for you again. I would walk through fire for any effort you are willing to put forth for America and the Democratic Party. I have given contributions from my very limited funds because I believe in my country and party and will continue to do so as money allows.

That said, I must beg and plea that you and other Democratic Senators promise to me and to all patriotic Americans that you will not buckle, compromise or go weak on the Supreme Court fight.

I am the mother of three daughters and five granddaughters I cannot face the prospect of major life decisions affecting theirs lives being made by a group of pseudo-religious madmen with plenty of agenda but very little Christian spirit or kindness.

Many grassroots organizations are springing up across this land demanding a return to the Democratic Party that will find a backbone and stand up to the majority thugs in Congress. We cannot be about compromise - the Republicans only view that as weak and beatable. They are not the party of reason but the party that has been hijacked by an extreme faction and until they return to some semblance of sanity we cannot cooperate in any fashion.

The grassroots groups are about saving our civil liberties, balancing a budget, finding a way to bring our soldiers home, saving the environment, getting affordable health care for all people, securing Social Security without Wall Street in our pockets, taking back public policy from corporate America and get all religious persuasion out of our government. That is a tall order and it is going to require a steel resolve from every single person who honestly loves this country.

Sir, respectfully, if you and other Democratic Congress people will assure me that my money will not be spent in vain, that you will stand strong and resolute for the Constitution, this country and me, I will give you all that I can in time, money and support.

True Democrats are ready, willing to work and prepare to contribute to the effort, are you with us?

Sincerely,

I would love to think he would actually read my letter but maybe some political wonk in the office will get the idea there are thousands, millions of people just like me out here demanding our representatives come back to the party.

And just in case you are in the mood to donate to the cause -

2. Thank you. Think we need to start a letter writing campaign outlining
exactly what we expect from our Congress people. No more wishy-washy, play patty cakes and make nice with the thugs. Those days are long gone. Representatives need to stand for us and the Constitution or get out of the way and let someone else into the office that will.

3. I won't donate on the basis of John Kerry requesting anything
He won't get my vote again if he runs, unless he is the only candidate against the BFEE, and then it truly will be an Anybody But X situation. For someone telling others to donate for a fight, he buckled right away after the election, he didn't fight against the Smear Boat slander...

6. Me too liveoaktx! I left my 6 yr old twins with Daddy for 5 days and
drove from NYC to Cleveland with 14 other NYers, to run around in the cold rain to get out the vote with ACT. We also sent more $ than we could afford and even then, the happenings on election night didn't put me into tears.

I'd rather expected the vote to be tampered with and my NY cynicism just kicked in and I said, "Yeah, just as I thought." But when I heard Kerry's rapid-fire concession speech on the radio, riding home through the long stretches of OH and PA the next day, it was like a sucker punch! After all that hard work and effort on the part of so many people, he just throws in the towel without even trying to be certain that all the votes were counted fairly?!

I've learned my lesson and my efforts go with:
1)candidates who will challenge crooked incumbants--ie. anyone running against Delay!, and 2)grassroots action groups--Emily's list, Move-on, ACT, PFAW, etc.

That's it man! No more hot shots from inside the beltway who are slick experts at playing the system and pulling in the bucks from lobbyists!

:banghead:

4. I like him, so I sent him money
I just sent him $50. I was going to send it to NARAL, but why not send it to Kerry instead. I also sent money to People for the American Way. I think it's money well spent.

9. Great letter!!
I've been watching Kerry closely since the election, and I'm really impressed with the stuff he's doing. I think he's really trying to fulfill as many promises as he can that he made on the campaign trail, and also respond to what he heard from people while he was campaigning.

I just sent some money, and I'm crafting a letter of my own.

Truthfully though, I'm a realist about this. I do think we're going to lose the court - I just think stuff like Kerry's doing can make it less bad than it would be otherwise.
:-(
