"Fight them there not here" Let's look at what WWII taught us
Edited on Mon Jul-11-05 11:51 AM by underpants
A entire national military operation was able to do both why wouldn't a loosely connected group of individuals be able to do the same?

The next time some whackjob runs that propaganda line off at you give them a "Well if you know your history..." line (they love that one) and mention one of the little told stories of WWII.

The Germans dispatched submarines (U-boats) across the Atlantic and they reak havoc along North Carolina's Outer Banks sinking at least 397 merchant ships.

The United States suffered one of its worst defeats of WWII not in Europe or the Pacific but along the nation's eastern seaboard. Three hundred ninety-seven ships were sunk or damaged and nearly 5,000 people were killed. The loss of lives, ships and raw resources represents one of the greatest maritime disasters in history.

For six months, sixty-five German U-boats hunted Allied merchant vessels practically unopposed within view of American coastal communities. The greatest concentration of these attacks occurred off North Carolina's Outer Banks. War Zone is a story of infamy, irony and innocence lost.

3. Thanks for the history reminder....
What * is doing in Iraq is totally unrelated to U.S. security.

4. I couldn't find it on the internets
but my stepfather has told me for a long time about how the Germans mined Hampton Roads harbor. I don't know if that is really true but they certainly were in the general area.

5. Not to mention the Japanese attacks on American soil
Besides Pearl Harbor, they invaded two island in the Aleutians. We had to send troops to dislodge them and casualties were pretty high.

I guess we "fought 'em here" in WWII.

6. I would submit that....
The brand of so called 'terrorists', insurgents, who are crossing the border into Iraq are not the same as the kind who would cross the ocean to attack the U.S. Not to mention the cost involved. It may cost tens or hundreds of thousands to educate and train people to infiltrate society in the U.S.

So I guess my point is that the people the U.S. is killing and detaining in the U.S. are just expendable resources to the enemy. The won't throw any more at the U.S. than they can afford to. That's why killing and detaining them serves no purpose.
