Karl Rove: Soft on terror (Keith Olbermann)

SECURED UNDISCLOSED LOCATION -- Karl Rove is a liability in the war on terror.

Rove -- Newsweek’s new article quotes the very emails -- told a Time reporter that Ambassador Joe Wilson’s trip to investigate of the Niger uranium claim was at the behest of Wilson’s CIA wife.

To paraphrase Mr. Rove, liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers; conservatives saw the savagery of 9/11 and the attacks and prepared to ruin the career of one of the country’s spies tracking terrorist efforts to gain weapons of mass destruction -- for political gain.

Politics first, counter-terrorism second -- it’s as simple as that.

In his ‘story guidance’ to Matthew Cooper of Time, Rove did more damage to your safety than the most thumb-sucking liberal or guard at Abu Ghraib. He destroyed an intelligence asset like Valerie Plame merely to deflect criticism of a politician. We have all the damned politicians, of every stripe, that we need. The best of them isn’t worth half a Valerie Plame. And if the particular politician for whom Rove was deflecting, President Bush, is more than just all hat and no cattle on terrorism, he needs to banish Rove -- and loudly.

5. And don't let fucking Rove resign "to spend more time with family", either
Make it clear WHY he HAS to resign so the country knows that our national security is safe from dirtbag politicos in the future.

19. No way...Rove needs to resign to spend more time with his lawyer
Resigning isn't going to make his criminal case go away.

6. Excellent article!
Heh - Scott McClelland seems shaken by all the questions about Rove. Heh, heh.

No way that refusal for Scott to talk is because of requests by the special prosecutor - unless they really have something criminal going on!

10. He plead the fifth...
...haha, when asked if he'd hired his own attorney yet.

I better see this BLAZING from the pages you witless white house lackeys. Why did it take the jailing of one of your own to finally realize what was up?

Speak against Bush, they will do ANYTHING to shut you up. They'd even do ANYTHING to shut up the entire nation if their voice was getting too loud (See September 10th, 2001).

16. actually, I think this blog has more to do with having been
in NYC on and after 9/11 than with being a media figure. I was in the DC area on 9/11 and when I think about Rove deliberately pissing away an intelligence asset, my blood boils. Don't know if those feelings are as intense for people who weren't there or not. I do recall that the first anniversary of 9/11 seemed harder for me than the people around me (by that time I was living elsewhere), so I have the impression that the impact was less visceral for those living outside DC and New York.

26. As a miliatry wife
the aniversary hit me hard, not the actual day... I was in tears for days....

That said even in sunny hawaii we had our bag stories to tell, funny those of us who were married to the military (or at leaset me) went into the procedures used in Uurope, I almost got a mall evacuated becuase a Moron forgot his computer case by the retaining wall

28. no, it wasn't just the day
Edited on Mon Jul-11-05 02:00 PM by gkhouston
it was more the lead-up to the day. All the crap on TV and people talking about it, like it was some damned holiday they were looking forward to celebrating. Made me want to bite somebody.

on edit: the lead-up to the anniversary, I mean. And yes, in some ways, the first anniversary was harder that the actual 9/11. I don't know if I was in shock in 2001 and that blurred the edges, or what, but 2002 was tougher for me than 2001, as well.

30. You know what it probably was?
The feeling that in the years after it happens, it's almost as if the event is being celebrated rather than commemorated. That can get to you.

Anyway, kudos to Keith for telling it like it is, as always!

15. Keith Olbermann is a first rate reporter, writer and anchor. As far as I'm
concerned, he stands at the top of the heap. He's articulate, serious (when need be) and definitely entertaining (when need be). He boiled this Rove issue down to a level that even Average Joe can surely understand.

Do they still give you the firing squad for treason?

If there had been blogs in the days of Edward R. Murrow, this is how he would have blogged.
