Here's Scotty's Bad Briefing in it's Bloody Entirety just for laughs

snippet:

Q Do you stand by your statement from the fall of 2003 when you were asked specifically about Karl and Elliott Abrams and Scooter Libby, and you said, "I've gone to each of those gentlemen, and they have told me they are not involved in this" -- do you stand by that statement?

MR. McCLELLAN: And if you will recall, I said that as part of helping the investigators move forward on the investigation we're not going to get into commenting on it. That was something I stated back near that time, as well.

Q Scott, I mean, just -- I mean, this is ridiculous. The notion that you're going to stand before us after having commented with that level of detail and tell people watching this that somehow you decided not to talk. You've got a public record out there. Do you stand by your remarks from that podium, or not?

MR. McCLELLAN: And again, David, I'm well aware, like you, of what was previously said, and I will be glad to talk about it at the appropriate time. The appropriate time is when the investigation --

MR. McCLELLAN: John, I appreciate your questions. You can keep asking them, but you have my response.

Go ahead, Dave. (He's trying to go to a different reporter here, but look what the new one, Dave says:)

Q We are going to keep asking them. When did the President learn that Karl Rove had had a conversation with the President -- with a news reporter about the involvement of Joseph Wilson's wife and the decision to send --

MR. McCLELLAN: I've responded to the questions.

Q When did the President learn that Karl Rove had --

MR. McCLELLAN: I've responded to the questions, Dick.

Go ahead.

Q After the investigation is completed, will you then be consistent with your word and the President's word that anybody who was involved would be let go?

MR. McCLELLAN: Again, after the investigation is complete, I will be glad to talk about it at that point.

Edited on Mon Jul-11-05 04:26 PM by the_spectator
Q Scott, at this point, are we to consider what you've said previously, when you were talking about this, that you're still standing by that, or are those all inoperative at this point?

Heard that as part of an excerpt on the radio too, as other reporters started to chortle. A Ron Ziegler reference!

The MSM smells blood in the water! Have hope people! As lazy and co-opted as the MSM might be at this point, it is just that close right now to taking the ball and running with it. They did it to Clinton, with so much less reason, NOT because somehow those MSM D.C.-to-Boston blue-state journalists are somehow all secret republicans :silly: -- they did it because, goddamn it, taking down a President can be fun!

I want to know who asked these questions:

Q Excuse me, but I wasn't actually talking about any investigation. But in June of 2004, the President said that he would fire anybody who was involved in this leak, to press of information. And I just want to know, is that still his position?

Q So could I just ask, when did you change your mind to say that it was okay to comment during the course of an investigation before, but now it's not?

They bombard him with Valerie Plame investigation questions, then one question on terror, then bombard him again with Rove/investigation questions, then a question about OBL and AQ and the London bombings, then BOMBARD him with Rove questions again, back and forth and on and on. He can NEVER get them away from that topic.

Think they finally smell blood in the water?

On edit, what the hell is THIS about?

Q Scott, since President William Howard Taft became Chief Justice after his presidency, you would not rule out the President nominating former law school professor Bill Clinton to the Supreme Court, would you? And if you wouldn't, we can report that President Clinton is under consideration, can't we?

MR. McCLELLAN: Well, that's the first time I've heard that name suggested. I know there are a lot of names being suggested out there, and you know that I'm not going to get into speculating about any particular names.

22. tremendous
We all know what kind of person rove is, and we all know the lows he is willing to sink to. rove is beneath contempt. We all knew this.

Watching scotty squirm was entertaining, but the real news here is that the press corp *finally* grew some spine.

Hopefully, the paradigm has shited, that the press will once again be a part of the system of checks and balances.

I'm still trying to figure out what happened today. Why, all of a sudden the press grew some nabs.

I don't think rove is walking away from this one.

:toast:

in regards to the paradigm shift - does the paradigm shift occur before or after the spine-growing? to me it's sort of like a chicken-or-the-egg question.

perhaps we will never know. that's why the fact that Scotty was squirming was, to me, the real news. Before he would spout that shit and it would be lapped up like so much kool-aid-flavored mana from the chimp-god. this time Scotty was simmered in that kool-aid till he was nice and red-faced.

Nice to be here, the pleasure is all mine.

As to the paradigm shift, all I can surmise is that the press reached the point when they just couldn't stand it anymore. That they were enraged thinking of Judy in prison protecting a waste-product like rove.

I believe the tough questions were asked out of anger. I don't believe that the media outlets represented by the press corps condoned the asking of these questions. I believe the individual journalists acted on their own, and out of anger. And once the ball started rolling, those who would never ask scotty a serious question were suddenly liberated, and boy, did they like it.

Basically, a feeding frenzy. And about time.

Fabulous. Bush, a man who *never* accepted responsibility for his actions, is now on the hot seat. And about time. With rove in a world of hurt, bush will be forced to do something he has never been successful at.

He will have to think for himself.

And when you consider that bush has failed miserably at everything he has ever attempted to do by himself, it is doubtful that he will dodge this bullet.

I have been so mad for so long. I have been feeling like a little kid who isn't going to get his way. That things have been so unfair, and that I am so powerless to effect any change.

I can't wait to get home and watch the briefing. Fabulous.

Take care

52. you bring up many salient points that i hadn't considered.
Edited on Mon Jul-11-05 05:25 PM by SlavesandBulldozers
i agree with all of them.
except, I think the chimp is not going to be caught in the net, just his weasel friends. Joe six-pack thinks Bush is Jesus. If the chimp got caught in the net it would only compound their chimp-messiah mythos that they have created in their diseased minds.

i would also add that the Carl Cameron (Faux news) question was rather telling. I think that Carl was actually intending on pitching a soft-ball when he asked (paraphrasing) "Does the President still have confidence in Rove?" That question would normally be a gimme for Scotty, but even that question resulted in a "ongoing investigation can't answer that"-type response. Carl was taken aback by that. And that taken-abackedness shows a major gap in communication between the wh and faux - meaning it seems the "memos" aren't going out anymore.

:hi: Perhaps it is the fact that Miller in jail and that Cooper was quite close to being sent to the pokey is the reason that they are following this story. They are looking after their own. It is like republican-itis. It's irrelevant unless it happens to you or one of your own. Who knows.

Again, the pleasure is all mine.

I think I came to the same conclusion. I said the same thing in my reply (above), then read your comments. Yes, the press has been spineless. Fear has a way of doing this.

Until one of their own ends up in jail protecting a piece of $hit like karl rove.

So, one journalist asks a tough question. Then another. And we end up with a bunch of guys who have been choking on unasked questions for the last 5 years suddenly liberated. And empowered.

And about time.

Thanks for the nice welcome, myrna.

Take care

I love that phrase from Plattoon. I think the worm turned today, and its about damn time. 1st time I've ever felt this way. The press started to protct their own, and stopped worrying so much about the next paycheck. The worm turned today, and things may start to get right. And, I think the proper term is, "They grew a pair." But what do I know. Stay cool, Eggplant.

75. Fun to see the press corps pretend to be tough. Pity it's short-lived.
The briefing is a hoot, no doubt.

It's easy for these mice to roar now that the real work of investigating Rove has been done by the special prosecutor, instead of the press. Many of those pitching hardballs at Scottie have seldom if ever pushed on this question before.

There are two reasons why this was a press briefing on Viagra.

First, as noted above, it's safe to do so now. The issue's out in the open, and they don't need to worry any longer about forcing the issue. Our media excels at sounding tough about the obvious, even as it avoids digging for the hidden.

Second, while it is populated with lickspittles, the US news media prefers to be craven on its own terms--and it hates being bullied. (Every professional courtier expects to be granted the trivial dignity of choosing how and when to bow and scrape.) The jailing of the NY Time's wretched Miller was a shot across the bow, and it has momentarily put some fight into the press corps.

That said, the White House is making this harder on itself. Going into Nixon denial mode is silly when the cat's already out of the bag. The longer Scottie stonewalls, the more we'll see of this tough-guy act from the delicate likes of Terry Moran.

As for Rove not walking away: anything's possible, but the worst he faces is stepping down before this term's over and awaiting his presidential pardon. I want to see the frog march, too, but it will only be ceremonial.

28. Who was the jerk who asked if Clinton was going to be
considered for the Supreme Court?

And then the same person commented on Rove's fabulous speech
to conservatives last month and would Rove be making any more
speeches?

I watched it but didn't catch his name or what paper he was from.

I'd like to send him a little note.

38. Some really juicy bits....
After a while, I decided not to paster Scott's answers in anymore, as they were ALL a variation of "I've already responded to that and we're not going to comment on a ongoing investigation"

McClellan was positively hammered by the WHPC today! I can't believe it! Is the WHPC getting (dare I say it) brave and doing it's job?

*********************************************************************

Q No, you're not finishing -- you're not saying anything. You stood at that podium and said that Karl Rove was not involved. And now we find out that he spoke out about Joseph Wilson's wife. So don't you owe the American public a fuller explanation? Was he involved, or was he not? Because, contrary to what you told the American people, he did, indeed, talk about his wife, didn't he?

Q Well, you're in a bad spot here, Scott, because after the investigation began, after the criminal investigation was underway, you said -- October 10th, 2003, "I spoke with those individuals, Rove, Abrams and Libby, as I pointed out, those individuals assured me they were not involved in this." From that podium. That's after the criminal investigation began. Now that Rove has essentially been caught red-handed peddling this information, all of a sudden you have respect for the sanctity of the criminal investigation?

Q Scott, what was the President's interaction today with Karl Rove? Did they discuss this current situation? And understanding that Karl Rove was the architect of the President's win for the second term in the Oval Office, how important is Karl Rove to this administration currently?

MR. McCLELLAN: Again, this is coming at it from --

Q It has nothing to do with what you just said.

MR. McCLELLAN: This is still coming at the same question relating to reports about an ongoing investigation, and I think I've responded to it.

Q Scott, I think you're barrage today in part because we -- it is now clear that 21 months ago, you were up at this podium saying something that we now know to be demonstratively false. Now, are you concerned that in not setting the record straight today that this could undermine the credibility of the other things you say from the podium?

Q Yes, in your dealings with the special counsel, have you consulted a personal attorney?

MR. McCLELLAN: Again, I'm just not going to say anything further. I expressed all I'm going to say on this matter from this podium.

At this point, MR. McCLELLAN'S head exploded in a blast of disconnected realities and many of the reporters took shrapnel from the explosion. One reporter was heard saying to another just after the blast, "Dude, you've got some Scotty on your shoulder..."

48. It's going to get worse - much worse.
Watch what is going to happen over the next few days, weeks. Look at the NY Times editorials today. The press is REALLY p.o.'d about having one of its own sent to prison, and the administraion is going to soon find out that the press has been giving them - for many reasons justifiable or not - a free pass, and that is not going to happen anymore, or at least for the time that Judith Miller is incarcerated.

Rove et al. made a major error when involving the press and then presuming to strongarm them. The administration is not prepared for the power of the brotherhood of the press, when it unites. Our country can only benefit.

Look for many more in-your-face editorials, interviews, and conferences - each to grow stronger than the last. They will likely be breathtaking in their candor.

This has all the potential of becoming an outright power struggle between the administration and the media.

If this wasn't so funny..it would be sad. At one point I thought the Press Briefing was cut and paste..cuz McCellan's answers are the same throughout. I hope this keeps up. McClellan has got to be sweating bullets by now. He's got alot of patience tho. I'd be getting frustrated if someone kept asking the same question over and over..but I also would have given a yes or no the first time the question was asked. Not some "merry-go-round" of Scottie avoiding the truth.

Laissez Faire Briefing Room

As the case of Jim Guckert, AKA Jeff Gannon has amply demonstrated, the bar for getting into the White House Briefing Room is pretty low.

But the fact of the matter is that the White House press office and the press corps have a long tradition of tolerance when it comes to eccentrics in their midst.

The current crop includes Lester Kinsolving, Raghubir Goyal, Connie Lawn and Russel Mokhiber -- each wondrously special in their own way.

snip

Editor's note: Lester Kinsolving is a radio talk show host in Baltimore who was a practicing Episcopalian minister and a columnist on religious affairs; his essays were published regularly in hundreds of newspapers and won him two Pulitzer Prize nominations. He is now also White House correspondent for WorldNet Daily and his dialogues with the President and more often, his spokesman, Ari Fleischer (and which are posted on the WorldNet Daily site), are a pleasure to read.

http://www.afsi.org/OUTPOST/2003JUN/jun10.htm

How one can go from being an Episcopal priest to being a White House correspondent for WorldNet Daily, I have no idea . . . kinda the two opposite ends of the spectrum.

134. A little more info.....
Dana Milbank wrote in The Washington Post in 2002 how they can sometimes be useful foils for a wily press secretary: "Want to change the subject to foreign affairs? Call on Raghubir Goyal of the India Globe (he'll ask about the perfidies of Pakistan) . . . or Connie Lawn (a freelancer with particular interest in the Middle East). . . .

"Want to end the briefing by turning the whole thing into a circus? You might choose Russell Mokhiber of the Corporate Crime Reporter (he'll launch into a tirade about greed), or Baltimore radio personality Lester Kinsolving (he'll ask about how 'the Reverend Mr. Jackson impregnated his mistress and used tax-exempt contributions to get her out of Chicago'). Within seconds, the wire service reporters in the front row will beg for an end to the briefing."

These rae Scurrilous Scotty's "go to" people when the going gets tough. They're all useful idiots that keep any press briefing from going in a direction not approved by the bush White House.

71. What are the chances this will lead to the downfall of Rove?

And realistically, could it really eliminate him from the Republican political strategy picture?

I mean, I hear the stories about gang leaders who are still able to command their gangs from prison, and members of organized crime that are able to run their organization while they're in jail. Even if this puts Rove in prison surely he'll still be able to be very involved in Republican political strategy (even if it's kept secret and denied by the administration).

I must say though, that as someone who believes in the concept of karma, it would be satisfying to see Rove take a big fall because of this. He's been absolutely ruthless and eventually it all needs to come back to him.

My Happy Thought for the Day: Rove and Bush sharing a prison cell. I'll bet Rove would get the "top bunk," if you know what I mean. (Nudge, nudge, wink, wink.)

Why did THIS have to be All-Star Game week? *sigh*

Anyway, I hope he at least keeps blogging. Today's blog was a killer.

90. Don't be too optimistic
I have to be the wet blanket on your enthusiasm.

These thugs can do ANYTHING that they want to and get away with it. Anything.

To his followers, George Bush is a born-again Christian, and NOTHING ELSE MATTERS! To them he is a struggling hero, their champion against liberals, abortionists, terrorists, satanists, and a zillion other bogeymen that infect their sick, religion-soaked minds.

If they hear the name of Jesus or George Bush, their knees turn to rubber and they begin to sway in rapt adoration. They do not care how many murders, rapes, dismemberments, or other atrocities are committed. It's all about loving Jesus and his personal representative on Earth, George W. Bush. Amen!

96. it depends on the meaning of "gentlemen"
Scotty missed a brilliant dodge:

Q Do you stand by your statement from the fall of 2003 when you were asked specifically about Karl and Elliott Abrams and Scooter Libby, and you said, "I've gone to each of those gentlemen, and they have told me they are not involved in this" -- do you stand by that statement?

106. I give Scotty two weeks
before he runs off to "be with the family.."

He had the look of FEAR on his face today, and you know THAT is a big no no with Bush Co..

Only Bush gets to do that..

The proverbial "Chicken with a spot of blood on him", in case you've never seen it, if ONE chicken gets a spot on him the others peck at it until they are ALL covered in blood and ALL are pecked to pieces..

Yummy.

I'm putting together a DVD for the Conyer's DSM House Parties (all across the USA on July 23rd) and I'm going to tie all of this together, ROve's indiscresion only makes the DSM MORE CREDIBLE.

And this time I get to make the DVD my way, and I will take no prisoners, not just covering a hearing/rally - this time I will build a case..

The truth will not be hidden, and it's going to get ugly...

108. Scott McClellan Needs A Thesaurus
...when the going tough, McClellan fell back on his handy list of Phrases To Use To Dodge Questions. Here’s Scott McClellan, by the numbers:

23: Number of times McClellan could’t answer a question because the Rove investigation is “ongoing.”

10: Number of times McClellan couldn’t answer a question because it was “related” to the investigation or in the “context” of the investigation.

16: Number of times McClellan said he just wouldn’t “comment” on a question.

5: Number of times McClellan assured reporters he “appreciates the questions” about Rove’s involvement in the Plame case.

8: Number of times McClellan told reporters he and the president were “helping” the investigation with their silence.

8: Number of times McClellan said he and President Bush want to “get to the bottom of this.”

3: Number of times McClellan said he and the president planned to “cooperate fully” with the investigation by not answering questions.

10: Number of times McClellan claimed he’d already “responded” to a reporter’s question.

...this in it's entirity. I had never before really paid attention to Scotty, but this time I studied him. His eyes, his moves, his gestures... He really seemed to be sweating up there, well... figuratively. Every question about Rove and you could see the "oh shit, they're gonna find out soon enough he's guity and we've been hiding it" look appear on his face. He's not a very good liar from what I've gathered. * could've at least gotten a better liar to save face. F*cking pantywastes.

117. the press
I am surprised by the press conference today. It clearly indicates just how much the White House press core has felt humiliated and bullied by Rove in the past and how much they loath him and the fiercely vindictive atmosphere he has created. It also telegraphs very clearly how vulnerable this Rove bastard is. Karl Goebels. No way that these spineless wimps would be rifling repeated questions at McClellan if they still feared terrifying retribution from the Karl turd. I find this very hard to beleive since I thought Rove-Goebels had much, much more control of the power situation in the White House. This quite possibly indicates that there is already a rumor that bush and darth cheney will throw the psychopath under the train as a way of covering their own tracks. This is very, very unlike them. They never fire anyone since they perceive that as 'weakness' and it renders them vulnerable to retaliation from the injured party. This is why they keep promoting all the worst felons in the bush crime operation. Its strictly a means to keep them silent.

So what kind of a bribe do they have for rove-goebels? No doubt he can resign in ignominy but still proceed by cell phone and computer to be in constant day by day touch with his dummy puppet. I think it is also just as likely that they will stage a 2nd terror attack on our own country as a diversionary tactic that will immediately backburner all demands for his head and get all limp dicked Democrats on board for the Jingo ride. This is the most likely and ofcourse the most horrifying possibility. Rove himself may at this very time be lobbying for a black ops mercenary operation. Remember he was schooled by the 'Plumbers' outfit that worked breakins and thuggery for Nixon. This will be his first instinct. I doubt very much that he will bow out. Far too unlike him. Expect them to go immediately on the offensive. This means some kind of domestic event staged very soon I would think. I hope I am wrong but if you want to know the future all one needs to do is study the past and these bozos are oh so predictable.

People should email writers and Congressmen expressing their concern that Rove who is clearly a loose cannon may not hestitate to stage a violent diversionary tactic in order to save his political skin and that of his puppet. Most certainly bush was in deep discussions with him on how to rat-screw Wilson.

119. Gannon
I am wondering also if alias Jeff Gannon is involved in any of this? Maybe Rove resigns fast before its revealed that he was using the overnight services of a male prostitute in the White House? You know that if he is vulnerable and going to go down that the press corps will be all over this like sharks on blood. They have pent up rage from being played on for so many, many years. They would unearth all manner of filth on Rove-Goebels and alot of it as well would have links to the puppet and to Oil-boy Cheney, Mr. KY himself.

We mustn't rule out the possibility that Gannon was overnighting in the White House with the presidente-select himself. A more disturbed, repressed and brutal candidate for bondage and humiliation I cannot imagine than our fearless leader. X cheerleader at Andover, full on daddy's boy, coward, alcoholic, heavy drug user with an extremely secretive and closeted past and present. Sounds like a self-loathing repressed homosexual to me. Wife fits the puzzle nicely. Stepford robot. Completely compliant and detached. Chain smoking,isolated,plastic-smiling slave. This could get really interesting. In pathetic truth the only thing that would disqualify bush in the eyes of his base would not be high crimes and misdemeanors but a homo erotic leather life revealed. I think it more likely that Rove is the one who hooked up with Gannon but who the hell really knows. Nothing so resembles the perverts that infested Hitler's inner circle more than this gang of sickos.

This is SO the real story! Bush in that cod-piece flight suit? Please. His need to rub men's bald heads (the real reason Ari left? Also, JimmyJeff fits this bill.)? Holding hands with that Saudi (custom, schmustom; that was weird!)? Other photos of him actually KISSING men? Saying that when people see him in the Oval Office they say, "Doesn't he look pretty?"? Commenting that his Spokesman Scotty isn't as "pretty" as some other guy's? Being told to cut down on the use of the word "fabulous"?
Some seriously gay vibes from that boy.

Also, lest we forget, Gramps was a Nazi financier, and Poppy had a gay pedophile ring use the WH.
Not to mention Scotty is known in Austin's gay bars.

I think they will be willing to give it all up over Plame and Iraq in order to keep the lid on this deeper, personal issue.

Check out this question

Q One follow-up. Considering the widespread interest and the absolutely frantic Democrat reaction to Karl Rove's excellent speech to conservatives last month, does the President hope that Karl will give a lot more speeches?

Does anyone know who asked this question? Maybe Gannon/Guckert changed his name again.

WOA BRO did you see that press conference? Man they really nailed that bastard Scotty, He was squirming like the little bitch that he is.

PPPAAAAARRRAAADDIIIIGGMMMMMM SHHIIIIIIIIFFFFFFTTTTT WWOOOOAAAAAA!!

Who do you think was most frustrated at and by the news conference ?

A) Scott, who was obviously under orders not to divulge any pertinent information, and definitely did so despite such brilliant questions. Mission accomplished

B) Reporters, who under orders to retrieve some information, succesfully managed to get nothing despite their best efforts to conjure up revealing questions.

C) Democrats, who realized that the president and congress seem to be overwhelmingly republican and well 99% of the public don't even know who Karl Rove is, so obviously not much is going to change.

I bet Scott actually enjoyed the conference....To not give his nemises one bit of even a sniff of information.....
