I'm not sure that is such a good idea. Firing him now is too easy. I say let the turd rot a while. Let him stink up the White House so much that they are still airing the place out while we run away with the 2006 election.

The longer they hold hands with this steaming pile, the better. The WH is already feeling the effects of being a lame duck, if Rovegate slows them down even more - great. We keep the pressure on but keep him on the payroll to link him to shrub until the end.

If the WH cuts him free now, they get to distance themselves and shrub gets to do his sanctimonious act. But the longer they support fecal-boy, the more they will have to answer.

Frankly, regardless of the outcome of the investigation, I have a sinking feeling that shit-head is going to get away with it. I hope I'm wrong but considering what they have done for the last 5 years...well, lets hope I'm wrong.

...Firing him means that they've been led by someone who for all practical purposes is a threat to national security. The benefits of this on the table, admitted by the WH, are incalculable. Demand he be fired, insist, run ads, ... demand to know how many agents were compromised or even "eliminated" because of this madness.

5. Here's the chilling thought I had today.

So, OK, let's assume this gets hot enough that he resigns or is fired. So what? Karl Rove has done nothing but eat, sleep, and breathe politics for his entire adult life. He and George Bush have had some sort of twisted symbiotic relationship for a couple decades now. Is that man really going to slink off to a country home and live the rest of his life growing roses and tomatoes?

If he doesn't go to jail, what is to stop them from putting him in some nondescript DC office building with a couple computers and a few phone lines and continuing to exert almost as much influence as he has for the last 5 years?

Please, someone, tell me that this couldn't happen.

Those type of people exist in the background, they are not known at all to the public. We just get a glimpse of the fixers when a high profile political-legal case arises. Otherwise, heavy hitting consultants are supposed to be like the old mob guys, modest and, whenever possible, invisible. In this capacity, Rove would be too much like Gotti, "not a good thing." Besides, relax he's going to do time somewhere. He'll get it for betraying a secret agent, or perjury before someone, or "conspiracy to defraud the government", John Dean's favorite charge for this case. It will happen.

they'll hold off for as long as possible. Eventually rover will do the 'leaving with grace' thing.

It may only happen when Fitzgerald is handing down indictments. The spin will be until then that they are waiting for the investigation to finish up before taking action.
