OK, at this point It's a good bet we've got Rove.
They're about to go into Damage Control mode, and Rover boy is going overboard.

But Pubbie blood is like potato chips. You get a sample, and it just makes you want more.

How far up the ladder will the feeding frenzy go? We could maybe clean out a fair number of middle-management types: probably Libby; maybe Bolton; if we're really lucky, maybe even Kindasleazy.

In the Watergate days I remember wondering if it would ever go as high as "the Germans" (Haldeman & Ehrlichman). Well, you all know how that one came out.

Any bets on how far it goes this time? Once the press turns, will they stay turned? Once the public starts to look under the carpet, will they keep looking further or will they just say "Ewwww! I wish I hadn't seen that," and flop it back down over the mess?

3. I agree entirely. The question is whether

Fitz, the press & the public will settle for the tip, or whether they'll start asking, "I wonder what's under this...?"

Actually, I think Fitz will take it as far as he can, but I don't know how far that might be before they start doing some serious jerking on his chain.

4. I would love to think so but that slippery bastard seems to be invincible
I noticed on Lou Dobbs tonight that Woodward was bemoaning what has been done to the culture of reporters protecting their sources (in other words he was basically trying to call Rove a *whistleblower*)
Bernstein had nothing nice to say about Rove and voiced his opinion but I still think this will be framed as "poor Karl Rove the victim"

10. There's always a chance...
It just doesn't seem...possible...at this point for things to be otherwise, though. There's always that chance, though. It defies logic. They're all saying it.

But, you just never know. They constantly excuse this stuff.

12. I'm still horribly confused.
nofacts said two 'senior' somethingorothers told him. So we've got KKKrove telling Colton who emailed the info a day or two before nofact's column came out, scooter has to come in there somewhere but no one has mentioned him, 'judy' has become the darling of the press corp, the outer had to have known Plame was covert for it to be a crime, Fitz & judy go back a few years (something about funding for a terrorists' cell-I think & judy writing about it).

I have no faith in the public anymore, but I'll keep my fingers crossed. The press definitely seems to have turned, but I've hoped that before. Though, I did see Gregory on NBC & he did a terrific job of recapping the whole thing w/soundbites of dimson saying he wanted to know who the leaker was.

I'm gonna go have a drink.

best

15. BushCo's response to Rovegate
will be as predictable as its response to each of their preceding public relations misfortunes: deny, deflect, misrepresent the facts, misdirect the focus of the story to 9/11 and terrorism, and finish up with the image of GWB beaming at Rove and stating his admiration for Uncle K.

Shucks, fire him?? Naaawwwww!!!!

16. The press feeding frenzy
could go in almost any direction....

Maybe on to other scandals? Like

What happened to $9BILLION in Iraq?

Was there BRIBERY on the floor of the House of Representatives?

Did the White House DELIBERATELY DECEIVE CONGRESS:
...on the Medicare Drug bill?
...on the REASONS for going to war?
...on the Unemployment/Employment figures?
...on the safety of the air at ground zero?

God..there's just too much to name....

18. Color me jaded. I think they've something up their sleeve
Scotty mentioned "investigation" 33 times today and "criminal investigation" 7 times.

Granted he was forced to by the press, and would've had to use those words more if he just didnt say 'asked and answered' a bunch of other times

Not the kind of image the WH spinmeister should be portraying, unless....they of course, know more, and plenty we dont....and they've know the goods are on someone else's plate....

I dunno, I smell a rat:hide:

19. Don't ever count the Cons out!
I'm not counting anyone down and out yet. The Neo-Con's are artists at Machiavellian showdowns and have illustrated time and time again that they *always* have a card up their sleeves (all the while yelling that the other guy is playing a marked deck).

Nope. I've salivated too many times to be let down by voter complacency (that's my nice way of saying the general populace of the US are too damn lazy and dumb to give a rat's ass about anything) and rat-f*cking by the Neo-Cons to hold out a lot of hope.

(But that gleam in my eye you see is... hope)

Edited on Mon Jul-11-05 09:12 PM by Stirk
Bush's numbers are in the toilet and rapidly sinking as reality catches up to the Fraud-Based Administration.

These guys are all smoke and mirrors- and Bush is about to lose his illusionist. If Rove goes down, it's going to be trouble for the Bush Administration.

24. I wish I had your optimism.
Right now, I'm cautiously optimistic. *Very* cautiously. And that's only on the subject of Rove being kicked to the curb. And even if that happens, I doubt it'll change his influence over the GOP's actions.

*keeps fingers crossed*

I hope you're right, though.

26. I'm hoping Fitzgerald threatens Rove with 10 years of hard time
and gets him to cut a deal in exchange for his testimony on the major players. That's the usual M.O. of prosecutors. I don't think Rove would be willing to sacrifice a major part of his future for Bush and Cheney. The Intelligence Identities Protection Act of 1982 carries with it a maximum 10-year sentence for its violation.
