Are we at the point where it is truly officially over for BushCo?
Bush peaked at the GOP convention. The Iraq situation - has slowly worn away at people. The Iraq elections were unspectactular. And now Afganistan is becoming a problem. People are scratching their heads.
The Shiavo incident was a turning point. Did DeLay think he was the president while BushCo was out of town? Bush appeared weak, as if he had to hurry back to Washington to secure a lose cannon. A fire a brimstone moment for the GOP.
Now, with a Republican controlled congress, Bush is being forced to play his hand with his grassroots and make a decision that affects the Right's core long term goal; repeal of Roe. They have everything they want. All the pieces are in place.
The Conservatives aren't dumb...I think they know that ABORTION - not the war - is the core issue they have been working toward for the past 20 years...Repealing Roe will be the true measure of sucess of the "Conservative Revolution."
And the sudden change in perspctive regarding who and what is "conservative" is stunning...after weeks of fighting Gonzales, the SCOTUS situation has changed everyones perspective...suddenly the liberals are for Gonzales, the conservatives against.
It seems particularly hopeless - since a REGAN apointed judge failed to get the job done. Reagan - is/was thier king, ideal...
I have wonder if Bush was hoping to get out of office without having to deal with SCOTUS?
The freeps seem to know they are about to get screwed.

If the Republicans don't fix the courts AFTER dramatically increasing spending during Bush's first four years and doing nothing about illegal immigration, how can anyone in their right mind justify voting Republican? It's harmful to the conservative movement to vote Republican when they are expanding government and entrenching liberalism in our nation for another three decades by refusing to fix the judiciary. ---------------------------------------------------------------- To: Blood of Tyrants
I'll repeat what I've said before. If he nominates Gonzalez I don't give a damn what strategery he thinks he's following. That will be it for me. Bush will be unsalvageable. No way to recover. He'll be in a class with Chirac.
I hope it's simply not true. Otherwise, it's another eight years down the drain. ---------------------------------------------------------------- To: Huck
...The Republican party will pay a tremendous price of Bush doesn't keep his promise. And, every President worries about his legacy and Bush's legacy will be one of tremendous failure if he doesn't keep his word. Plus, he essentially will be a lameduck the rest of his term because he will be universally despised by both the left and the right.
