Another $9 Million Missile Contract for the Death Merchants. Hell to Pay
And that's just the payoff for research

http://www.atk.com/NewsReleasesLatest3/2005-07-12-SLIRBM.asp#TopOfPage

MINNEAPOLIS, July 12- Alliant Techsystems
(ATK) and Lockheed Martin have been awarded a $9.2 million
contract by the U.S. Navy's Strategic Systems Program (SSP) office to
demonstrate and validate solid rocket motor technologies suitable for a Submarine Launched Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile (SLIRBM).

SLIRBM is a conventional missile concept that builds on the heritage the two companies share in U.S. Navy strategic missile development (Lockheed Martin and ATK provide the U.S. Navy with the submarine-launched Trident D5 nuclear ballistic missile). SLIRBM is designed to precisely deliver a conventional payload on target at ranges in excess of 1100 miles within 10-15 minutes of launch.

ATK is a $3.0 billion advanced weapon and space systems company employing approximately 14,000 people in 23 states.

Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin employs about 130,000
people worldwide ad is principally engaged in the research, design,
development, manufacture and integration of advanced technology systems, products and services. The corporation reported 2004 sales of $35.5 billion.

from my file:

Lockheed Martin has $77 billion in federal contracts, primarily with the Defense Dept. With a share of 24% of U.S. arms exports, Lockheed-Martin is the world's largest arms exporting company. Lockheed leads the pack of defense contractors who do business with the U.S. with valuable Pentagon contracts worth a total of nearly $30 billion and an advertised $70 billion backlog.
