RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman Statement on the Partisan Attack on Karl Rove

WASHINGTON, July 12 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Following is a statement by Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Ken Mehlman on the partisan attack on Karl Rove:

"It's disappointing that once again, so many Democrat leaders are taking their political cues from the far-left, Moveon wing of the party. The bottom line is Karl Rove was discouraging a reporter from writing a false story based on a false premise and the Democrats are engaging in blatant partisan political attacks."

6. The Spin is in----Read Mehlman's statement carefully
this will be the spin from the right. Oh so why would Rove need confidentiality agreement if he was trying to discourage. Why would Rove call Tweetie and tell him Wilson's wife is fair game.

Does this sound like a man discouraging a reporter?

7. HEY MEHLMAN!
If there was a Democrat President and all this was going on, there would most certainly be an investigation. No doubt about it. So therefore, fuck you. Deal with it. Rove is going down and taking others with him.

10. "false story" "false premise"
this is obviously their new spin on this.
That scary-thang Monica Crowley was trying to push this line last night on The Situation. Rachel shut her down, but witchy-poo has her own show to get out her agenda here.

Are the networks refuting this junk? Anyone know? Wilson was not "sent" by his wife and his report was right. The memo was forged. How can they refute that? Crowley tried to say that Wilson was wrong about Saddam having a contract to purchase yellow cake. What are they doing or what do they have (or what "evidence" have they manufactured) to push this new lie?

17. exactly, I've heard this false premise shit
way too much. Okay, we know the yellow cake documents were forged. We know Bush should have known that intel was false when he used it in the SoTU. Just more lies from the RW spinners. Why do I continue to be amazed when they just lie outright?

24. Agree - if you listen to Joe Wilson's testimony at the DSM hearing
he explains it all fully. Why he was sent - why Niger could not have provided the yellow cake because of the way the process is set up. Reporters just need to listen to that for a great primer on Wilson and Niger.

14. Spin, spinmeisters, spin
There are so many ways to refute a story, but to wreck a woman's career and burn a CIA asset on WMDs during a war that was supposed to be about ridding the world of WMDs, is the biggest crock this bunch has come out with yet.

15. Republican = liar.
That's all you need to know when reading or listening to these freaks.

Usually they limit themselves to sleight-of-hand and misdirection... such as the "taking their cues from Moveon" horse-shit.

But here, in a sign of how panicked lil' Ken is, he's delivered what has to be an out-and-out (if you'll pardon the double-entendre, Ken) falshood. Saint Karl? Yeah, reight.

20. You have to laugh at how pitiful they are: ...the "Move On Left" of the
Party. It's hardly a sinister sounding name...and it's all they've got to go after us on since the "Biden/Lieberman" DLC'ers don't allow our party to be unified enough to be a force. So, the Repugs pitifully blame everything on the "Move On Left." :-(

25. What exactly was the "false story" that they were being discouraged about?
It is not false that Ambassador Wilson went to Niger at the behest of the CIA. It is not false that he returned with complete evidence that the report saying Niger was selling Yellowcake to Iraq was false. What exactly is the "false story" that reporters were being "warned" by Rove about?

30. They are nitpicking...
claiming that Wilson's procliamation that the Vice-President requested information about the Uranium and that the OFFICIAL CIA - (Tenet) - didn't ask Wilson to go, only that it was suggested during a CIA meeting by Valerie Plame.

It was Wilson who has been claming that the Niger Documents were forgeries -- and this is their excuses for continuing to believe those documents, even though Dulfer Report completely backs up Wilson.

27. The important thing to note about this...
is how they've shifted and reframed the debate from whether Rove committed a federal crime to whether Wilson's trip was authorized and consequently why they essentially ignored his information that Iraq did not have nuclear ambitions -- which turned out to be absolutely correct!

29. Good one, Ken-doll!
Oh, it has SUCH the ring of truth! Karl knew AHEAD OF TIME that a "false" story was GOING TO BE published, and so tried his ding-dangest to stop that reporter from writing it!

Next question for Kenny-boy, Jr. and/or whoever else shows his (or her, as in Hughes or Matalin) face this Sunday a.m.:

"WHEN and FROM WHOM did Karl Rove find out the nature of a FUTURE newspaper article, such that Rove felt compelled to call the reporter of a FUTURE story in order to DISSUADE the reporter from printing it? Did the reporter ask, "Gee, Karl, how did you find out what I was THINKING of writing? Clairvoyance?"

SO FRICKIN' FEEBLE and TRANSPARENT, Mehlman and Co. just BEG to be beaten senseless.

37. CHENEY PROBABLY ALSO INVOLVED
I get the feeling that Cheney is the other high ranking
official that is involved, as Wilson wrote in The New York Times that his trip to Niger had been taken at the request of the CIA to answer a query from Vice President Dick Cheney's office.

39. Did he read the same notes on the e-mail I did?
And to claim the purported accusations that were to be written were false, is just absolutely absurd. I am also getting sick and tired of being tied to Move-on and being far-left.Neither organization or view point has a baring on this matter. Excuse me, but when information is being manipulated and people lose their jobs to justify the actions of others, I don't view that as far left, I view that as holding my government up to and requesting answers and accountability.
