Edited on Thu Sep-25-03 10:51 PM by nothingshocksmeanymo
Radio station WTFU (wake the fuck up!) coming in loud and clear from the left coast!!!

Come on you guys!!! There are THREE ACTIVE threads on DU RIGHT NOW about an ENERGY BILL THAT will ALTER your life for the REST of your life. There is hardly maximum participation on them.

This bill is tantamount to privatizing the INTERSTATE HIGHWAY.

DO YOU want the mess in California to EXTEND TO EVERY state in the union?

Please take a break from the mostly masturbatory candidate threads for a BRIEF moment to educate yourself on this issue and PARTICIPATE!!!

NOTE TO THE MODS...IF WE CAN HAVE 50 open Clark threads..I don't think 4 VITAL energy bill threads will kill anybody. :hi:

4. The problem could be
that many people here are FOR deregulating energy. That would just be too sad, though.

5. Thanks***Whats concerning me now more than anything - Electronic Voting -
People talk and yammer on and get side tracked (even myself at times) on these threads, when in reality our vote MAY NOT EVEN COUNT EVERYBODY.

People who are articulate seem to be either in total denial or I dont know what, just spinning back and forth on these candidates AS IF IT EVEN MATTERED - literally ignoring this MAMMOTH elephant in the room.

Amazing. With that said there are some wonderful people who are the nuts and bolts behind it all. I have tried TWICE to get the Election Reform meetups going. It should HAVE EVERY DUER ATTENDING, but almost everyone is turning their head, I guess assuming someone else will do it.

Hello America??? WE ARE SOMEONE ELSE....It is up to US!!

I actually signed up for the Atlanta one. 2nd Wed. they are.

Don't intend to hijack the thread.

NSMA -- I can only handle one urgent, life-altering, critically important issue at a time. Spent hours today on it and hours more tomorrow. Sorry I can't help with this but please keep at it, you and salin and others.

Edit: I really have to add that it's been my observation that DUers are NOT all that activist-oriented.

36. No.....Activism on DU is down to a tiny trickle...all we hear about is
"What If?....."Don't you think?" and "Who Will Be?" posts in GD.......If you put anything anywhere else....few people read it.....if it's serious in GD you get a few more folks reading and three or four will help do something.......but with GD becoming the "spill over" from the lounge...what can one do?

I'd like to help you NSMA with the Energy Bill........but I've got my own pet projects.....and I try to give to environmental groups that are hopefully lobbying on this. I use their alerts to send faxes to my congresspersons so I'm doing the best I can with that one.

Peace! :-)'s

38. Sadly, people get more fired up
about a racist bake sale or news about the Lacy Peterson Murder than they do about massive issues that could affect the rest of their lives. It's amazing to me that so many people can spend hours posting on a music or pet thread, but can't spare a few minutes to write to their representatives, local papers, or even to sign a petition. I agree that these are VERY SERIOUS issues, and we should all be doing our part NOW instead of complaining about it all later!

9. Check out that first link...
plug, plug... an easy way for a small time (and brain) commitment, that you can get up to speed on the energy deregulation part of the pending energy (from Cheney inspired Hell) bill. A bit of a lengthy article - written in a "for dummies" format - very accessible. Then coming together to try take little bits from it to paint literal pictures/examples/analogies that can make the ideas concrete and accessible to those who haven't taken the plunge to read. From that we can get more folks involved (and more other organizations).

Thanks.

19. (To Sedaka's Breaking up is Hard to do)
They say that deregulation - is bad for you...
Now we know, we know that its true...
Just when we think its voted down - then...
They sneak it in with sugar and we are fighting it again...

Remember when
California got screwed
Enron, Duke and others
took the economy and chewed
Think of all the damage
they have put California through
Deregulation is bad for you...

I beg of you
Don't let cheney win
His graft to cronies from
the taxpayers chin
So he can fundraise more its true
Deregulation is bad for you...

Don't know why - but Pepperbelly's post just put that in my head... so here's a chance that isn't so hard to put a little bit of energy towards an important cause - because we are all screwed if the corps get greater and greater ability to manipulate markets to get 'safe' money (we ALL will keep paying rates) to offset their other risky behaviors - think ENRON - is it surprising the timing of when the market manipulation of California began - appears to begin around the time that ENRON internally is realizing they are in HUGE trouble - quick source of infusion of $$$$ and california rate payers and economy be damned... http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=407170&mesg_id=407170

30. reeling
Didn't even know the Cheney type bill was sneaking through anyway. Will sign petitions etc. Same as a lot of the unreal insane garbage the bottomline is so simple people only have to get interested for a minute.

Enron. California. Your basic life needs controlled by an unaccountable multicorporation based on profit. Instead of an accountable if troublesome civil government running it non-profit.

If the bill weasels around the simplicity of just saying no to this looney faith in Brave new World Enron overseers, forget it.

I'm building my windmill or moving to the one town nearby with cheap energy and no service problems that owns and runs its own power supply.

The water Empire control system is next. Bottled air.
