Fitzgerald = the special prosecutor in the film "Z?"
Having recently re-watched the great, late 60's film "Z," based on the true assassination of an RFK-like House of Deputies figure in Greece (the rightwing still uses the same playbook: "accidents," "lone nuts," etc.), I'm wondering if Fitzgerald will turn out to be like the Jean-Louis Trintignant character in that film.

Which is to say, a prosecutor hired on to do his expected job -- abet the cover-up -- but who actually sticks to the law, and finally, though he doesn't want to, goes after the generals -- because the evidence shows they're the guilty ones. (Of course, the generals struck back, after their arrest, and Greece was a dictatorship for many years...)

If you don't know the film, here's a blurb:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0065234/

And yes, it's available on Netflix...

8. About 20 years ago actually.
It's just such an important line to the plot that one doesn't forget.

9. well, I hadn't seen since I was about 10 (!)
...and seeing it again, remembered many of the scenes visually, but the "tiger" plot point had eluded my memory...

3. I remember that film
I never saw it but I might have to now.

You raise an interesting question: if the Bush regime goes down will they resort to declaring martial law? And if Bush does declare martial law, will the military go along with them?

My answer to my own question is that Bush won't declare martial law because the military won't go along with it. I've read and heard that many in top positions in the U.S. military despise the Bush regime.

4. I think (hope?) you're right...
...on the martial law question. What's interesting is that in the case of Z -- and now, in the case of Bush - the ruling oligarchs never expected someone who claimed to believe in the "rule of law" to actually follow "the rule of law," and that was their undoing...
