TPM: Plame was the one being smeared, not Wilson

A point that hasn't been made yet.

Everyone I hear from today says that the White House is going after Joe Wilson hard in their background conversations with reporters. Apparently Karl Rove himself.

Their main hit apparently is that it was Valerie Plame who authorized Wilson's trip to Niger or was the one who sent him -- which is as false today as it was two years ago.

Now, that's as much an attack on Plame as it is on Wilson. Actually, even more of one on her since the subtext is that she was either engaging in nepotism or advancing some private political agenda.

So now we know that Karl Rove started attacking Valerie Plame to get his boss out of the soup. And now two years later he continues to attack her.

True to form to the last. And every reporter in town knows it.

2. IMO, the time is ripe for Valerie herself to step forward and give a

face to this. I'm sure she's the most sought after interview right now, and she is probably waiting to see if any indictments are coming, but like John Dean just said, there may be another story in the near future that will knock this one off and it will die like all the other scandals associated with the Bush cartel. We really need to hear from Valerie soon.

3. Just my .02¢ - Plame was not being smeared, she was being

outed as an undercover agent. Her life and all of her co-workers working on WMDs were put in danger by Rove, Cheney and the cabal just to get at Wilson for telling the truth. We were suppose to be looking for WMDs - that was Plame's expertise and yet these clowns figured her work and the rest of the CIA agents working on this were expendable to silence the truth. Seems like everyone in the media is forgetting that lives could have possibly been lost because these thin skin asswipes couldn't take a valid criticism.
