My LTTE regarding Rove, Plame, and Wilson

If Karl Rove leaked Valerie Plame's identity to reporters, knowing it endangered her life, the life of agents under her, and compromised the search for WMDs, in Iraq and elsewhere, he deserves more than to be fired...he deserves to be prosecuted as a traitor. As does anyone who shields him.

I find it highly suggestive that both Plame and her husband, the former U.S. Ambassador to Iraq, were outspoken in their opposition to this administration's claims of WMDs in Iraq, and such a move as 'outing' Plame was apparently calculated to effectively silence them.

Plame’s branch of the CIA was telling the administration that there weren’t any WMDs in Iraq. Tracking such information WAS her job, after all. And we have every reason to believe she was good at it.

The fact that we haven't found WMDs in Iraq wasn't because of an intelligence failure. It was, rather, due to deliberate sabotage of CIA operations in the area guilty of uncovering information the Bush administration didn’t want to hear.

So it appears the ‘outing’ had two purposes. To get back at Joe Wilson for not going along with the script regarding the alleged fissionable materials purchased from Niger, and for Valerie Plame herself daring to contradict the administration’s stance on Iraq and WMDs.

I, personally, find it not only deplorable, but deeply disturbing.

2. Now if people would just "get it"

this whole administration would crumble around itself. Bush's latest statement of "confidence" in Rove will backfire - if the media just does HALF its job.

To the Bush people, terrorists are straw men compared to their Real Enemies - the ones they spend most of their time making war on: Liberals, Democrats, minorities, truth-tellers (whistleblowers, career diplomats, career prosecutors, and career CIA personnel.) To the Bushites, all these are more severe threats to their style of government than terrorists or hostile governments with nuclear weapons programs.

This is the overlying message we are hearing behind all the Plame wordsmith jockeying: "It doesn't matter what you think Karl Rove did - he didn't do it, because it's impossible for one of the reality-creators to do anything wrong in our book. And it's OUR book. Stop telling lies about Karl Rove; the truth is whatever we say it is. We create your reality, we say what's legal and what's not.

"What's illegal? Democrats having sexual relations. What's legal? A Republican deliberately revealing the identity of an undercover CIA operative. Six or eight times (until it works.) Then lying about it.

"We own the country. We own the world. We own you and your miserable excuse for reality."

As Dick said to Pat Leahy, "go fuck yourself."
