concerning *'s main voting block - Christians.

It doesn't assume other religions don't pray.

12. I was asking because

The Christian fundamentalists form a strong part of Bush's base, and as there was a recent thread regarding prayers on FR it seemed unfair to me that Christianity has been co-opted by the Right. I'm sure there are many people with many religious convictions (I have none, I should point out) who are praying regarding the administration, but particularly the Christian Right pray for the Right, and seem to think that their religion is inescapably the path to redemption.

I thought it might do them some good to see that there are Christians praying on the left, too. Would they claim that their god is ignoring one set of prayers in favour of another? Would they dare assume that they know their own god's *political* position better than another group of his followers? That would be a strange god, that votes Republican, or at all. I had always thought of him as politically impartial.

I pray that justice is done and they are prosecuted, successfully, for the loss of innocent life they have inflicted upon the world. And I pray that we survive their heinous policies.

9. Same here
Same with me. I always pray for them to get what all they've done since 2000. I do have faith God will deal with it the best way possible whether here on Earth or in the afterlife. Either way I know all that Bush has done won't go unnoticed from God. Bush has done all the seven deadly sins.

11. My Prayer for Karl Rove, taken from Psalm 109
Here is my Prayer for Karl Rove, quoted verbatum from The Holy Bible, Psalm 109:6-20

***

6 Set thou a wicked man over him: and let Satan stand at his right hand.
7 When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer become sin.
8 Let his days be few; and let another take his office.
9 Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.
10 Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.
11 Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let the strangers spoil his labour.
12 Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to favour his fatherless children.
13 Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.
14 Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the LORD; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.
15 Let them be before the LORD continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth.

***

Let me hear a loud "AMEN"

The Bible really does have something for every occasion!

Edited on Tue Jul-12-05 08:08 PM by tuvor
And on top of that, they're abusing Christianity by claiming to do what are terrible things in Christ's name.

No, I choose not to pray for those unforgiveable sons of bitches from hell.

17. Pray for what, exactly? And are they worth praying for?
One good person making a mistake is one thing.

One person with the list of "mistakes" he has done is a far different matter.

33. if 'god' is all powerful and has a perfect plan, why bother?
Isn't prayer just another name for 'lobbying god'?

Arent you asking 'him' to change his perfect plan?

I've always found the contradictions of christianity amusing until they start killing people.

34. Every liturgy
We pray for our political leaders, our troops, and our community in liturgy every time. Our liturgy is over a thousand years old, and those prayers have been in there a long time. You should see the dark looks when we get to that point, though. We have a lot of Dems in our church, and you can hear the grumbling undercurrent when we get to that part.

36. I pray that these criminals will get what's coming to them
in this life rather than (or in addition to) the next, because there are a lot of Americans who'd like to see them thrown in the slammer.

I believe in inherent goodness, but these people have squandered it all.
