Dear Senator Cornyn:
I served in the Justice Department under the late President Reagan. I am not sure what I find more disturbing:
1. Rove's leak of the identity of a CIA agent to the press;
2. Rove's denial that he leaked the information to the press;
3. The White House's denial that Rove was the source of the leak;
4. The White House's assurance that anyone responsible would be fired, then silence and stonewalling on the matter when Rove's role was uncovered; or
5. Rove's feeble attempt to parse words by stating he didn't name he "by name" when he identified who she was.
Let us not forget that we sought impeachment and perjury convictions for a former sitting President for parsing words over what constitutes "sex" and quibbling over the meaning of "is" in a deposition involving a sexual relationship that in no way affected the business of our country.
Is it not disingenuous for the White House to refuse to act with respect to Rove? He is a high-ranking official who risked the life of an undercover CIA agent, denied doing so, and when later the subject of sworn testimony as to his communication, claims that he didn't technically leak the identity of the agent because he didn't name her "by name". He identified her to a reporter. He needs to step forward, own up to what he has done, and face the consequences, and the White House needs to act immediately if it is to have any credibility.
Rove needs to be discharged immediately and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Sincerely,
