Tony Blair: Mad Genius
Lets say you are the PM of a once proud nation facing its "last throes" as a world power. You are hooking up with the EU to get on equal footing with the US and China in world eco politics. How could you weaken the US without actually fighting against them?

In martial arts the emphasis is on using your opponents strength against them. If this were a novel then it would turn out that Tony Blair, upon seeing that a retard had been elected President of the US, would goad him into a quagmire in the Middle East, depleting the US militarily, economically and politically, setting yourself up as the leader of the free world.

That probably didn't happen but its funny to think about..

1. The flip side...
... just musing, of course, that Blair, with ambitions to soar higher than other Labour politicians (many of whom had explicitly told the US to bugger off when asked to join their wars), saw what the Falklands War and the first Gulf War had done for the reputations of Thatcher and Major, respectively, and enthusiastically went along with Bush's plans to invade Iraq.

And, since so many British commentators have described Blair as bright, but deeply cynical (as John MacArthur reminds, recently), perhaps Blair intends for himself a spot at Carlyle, ala John Major, and to grow very wealthy by his donation of British blood and treasure.

After all, the UK has been a sore point in the EU in some important ways, and while it is an important part of that body, it in no way commands attention as a former empire, nor is the UK nor Blair destined to rule the EU by fiat and use it as a surrogate for renewed British imperial power.

Cheers.

2. Actually it was mad dumbass * who goaded PM Blair into this mess
and now Blair is treating the terrorists' attack on the London Underground as a crime... which means he'll be looking for indictments, convictions and therapy (in prison) for the people whodunnit. At least something positive will come out of that course - unlike *'s response to 9-11.

Course, if it turns out that the people whodunnit are somehow connected to the CIA, Tony had better not get into any small planes... :scared:

4. If only Blair had been wired for that early '02 trip to Crawford
Where he & Bush conspired to fix the intelligence around the idea of invading Iraq...
