Military Begins Internet Censoring
This is an "insider article" written by me and placed in the Base Paper.

Military Begins Internet Censoring

With the United States and it's allies constantly under threats of terroism, violence, and hatred abroad our government is salivating over public support in it's war. We are currently engaged in a war in which our President insists "Will last for generations to come". Underneath this war lies another one, a war for your attention and ultimately swayed idealology.

European bases recently enacted a program on government computers that have banned and restricted what patrons and employees can see about the current administration and the media's play on the current wars abroad. When questions arose about this outright censorship, employees of the human resources branch were "Out of the loop for contacts".

Censorships aren't only limited to war and politically motivated subjects, but also to certain realms of the internet once deemed informative such as dictionaries and encyclopedias. Using strong word filters, and "bots" which record data to observe a users behavior, the new programs provide a strong tool to censor what the user will see, hear, and watch.

Users of the network(s) are growing increasingly tense with the changes."I can't even do research for my Biology class." says a Sailor. "When I type in ovaries, I am blocked from viewing information". The NCO club endorses the move because it is a proven "morale booster" when the Soldier,Sailor,or Marine is uneducated on current events in the world. The NCO club also says that it will be a "better way to instill pride of service into junior personell".
--------------------------------end

After doing some research, it is a directive piled onto all admirals from CNO to limit what all DON employees/sailors see. It's official, the military is now at a conscript level. 1 more year....please hurry!

3. my son is stationed at Groten at the Sub School and ...
Edited on Tue Jul-12-05 09:17 PM by Pepperbelly
he told me of one of his classmates who had used the computers in a USO or something auxillary like that off base. They backtracked his surfing and discovered his profile on-line in which he indicated he was gay. They notified the Navy and BOOM ... the kid's gone.

edited for clality ... it was the USO or whoever that checked out his surfing activities and then reported it.

4. I've been Apprehended for Posting Here and on kos
Went to Mast for it, as well as other things. But the NCIS is constantly monitoring our actions. It feels like the Gestapo is messing with us.

8. The picture, can you tell me about it?
If I'm not mistaken that would be the President, the CIC, writing something on a US flag? I don't want to presume, so asking what you know about the picture. Why? Cause I would like to use it...military family here and I just wrote published article Mr President I'll Fly My Flag at Half Staff on July 4, speaking of the dignity of the soldiers when the President made his speech at Fr Bragg, Fayetteville on June 28, contrasting the job they were doing with the job the President is not doing.

9. Recent events, I see...
I spent a good portion of my off watch shipboard time during my last 3 years of service 'cruising' DU. When I was taking my final physicals, I found the onbase 'internet' cafe had all political sites with the word 'Democratic' or 'Republican' in the name banned. Which meant that DU couldn't be accessed, but FR could.

Any NCO that approves of censorship of non-classified information (like what's found on the net) is violating his oath to defend the Constitution... period. And our oath to the Constitution comes before our oath to the President, or superior officers.
