Need some ideas here friends, I have the attention of alot of Freepers
I built a video wall (hey, I am the walldude koo koo koo choo) this week for a trade show in Denver. Turns out the show is The Christian Retailers Association. Every goddam freeper this side of the Mississippi is here. Luckily the booth I'm working in is selling videos of the old BBC versions of The Chronicles of Narnia so it's not too bad. However a lot of the booths, and there are hundreds of them, are full of freeper propaganda. I got a chance to walk around today and saw and heard so much about our wonderful President and his Christian values that I almost puked up my lunch. It really pissed me off, so I went back to my booth and did a little editing. I added a single frame graphic to the video I'm showing that says Impeach Bush! A single frame is 1/30th of a second so it's totally subliminal. There are two days left on the show and I want to do something bigger and better for the last day. Now I can't do it in my booth because, well, I'd like to get paid, but I can get on the show floor before everyone else. I was thinking of printing up fliers or something and leaving them in all the booths. But I'm not sure what to put on them. I want it to be effective but simple. Here's some of the things I saw today to show you what I am up against:

Books:
George W. Bush: The Greatest President Ever
George W. Bush: The Life Of A True Christian
The Secrets of Gays And Why They Shouldn't Be Secret
Accept Christ Or Pay The Price
The Evolution Lie
Noah And The Dinosaurs

T-Shirts:
Friends Don't Let Friends Go To Hell(??Then who am I gonna hang out with?)
Legalize... Prayer(I didn't know it was illegal)
Many, Many, Bush T-Shirts

Odds and Sods:
Scripture Candy
Bible Action Figures
Rapture Kits(I intend to ask tommorow what exactly is included in a Rapture kit.)

Now before you start flaming me for being anti-Christian imagine being a progressive, liberal, Jew, and spending a few days surrounded by this stuff, it'll make you nuts. There seem to be alot of nice people there but the level of ignorance is astounding.

So please, if you have an idea of a simple but effective message or photo or something I could put on a flier post it here, tommorow I will choose something, print up a few hundred of them and leave them in every single booth in the place.....

2. Since you're dealing with
devout Christians, how about 'Jesus said': Love your enemies. Do good to them that hate you.....and so on.

No one can complain about the actual words of Jesus...but it may make them think about the path THEY are following.

There's a line about 'false prophets' in the End Times too.

God did not equivocate when He dictated these words to Moses.
Anyone who kills, or who takes part in killing, or who votes for politicians who call for war have committed a mortal sin.
Including Bush, and all the people who voted for him.

George W. Bush - AWOL from Supporting our Troops

Between tax cuts for the rich, war profits for Halliburton, or support for our troops - which does the Bush Administration choose, time and time again?

Bush Administration cuts $1.5 billion from military family housing. The Bush Administration cut $1.5 billion for military family housing, despite Department of Defense statistics showing that in 83,000 barracks and 128,860 family housing units across the country are below standard. ("Nothing But Lip Service," Army Times, June 30, 2003; "House Appropriations Committee Approves $59.2 Million for Ft. Hood," U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards Press Release, June 17, 2003)

Bush Republicans support millionaires instead of military veterans. Bush allies in Congress stopped efforts to scale back the tax cut for the nation's millionaires by just five percent - a loss of just $4,780 for the year - in order to restore this funding for military family housing. ("The Tax Debate Nobody Hears About," Washington Post, June 17, 2003)

Bush Administration underfunded veterans' health care by $2 billion. The Bush Administration's 2004 budget underfunded veterans' health care by nearly $2 billion. ("Vets Health Low on Bush's Priority List," The Hill, September 17, 2003; "Support for Troops Questioned," Washington Post, June 17, 2003; U.S. Department of Veterans' Affairs, September 2002)

Bush Administration proposal would end health care benefits for 173,000 veterans. More than 173,000 veterans across the country would be cut off from health care because of Bush Administration proposed budget cuts and its plan requiring enrollment fees and higher out-of-pocket costs. ("Support for Troops Questioned," Washington Post, June 17, 2003)

Bush Administration budget cuts force more than 200,000 veterans to wait for health care. Over 200,000 United States veterans have to wait more than six months for a medical visit because of health care shortages. ("VA Health Care Funding Alert," Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Press Release, January 31, 2003)

Bush Administration opposed plan to give National Guard and Reserve Members access to health insurance. Despite the war efforts of America's National Guard and Reserve Members, the Bush Administration announced in October 2003 its formal opposition to give the 1.2 million Guard and Reserve members the right to buy health care coverage through the Pentagon's health plan. One out of every five Guard members lacks health insurance. ("Bush Opposes Health Plan for National Guard," Gannett News Service, October 23, 2003)

Bush Administration cuts $172 million allotted for educating the children of military personnel. The Bush Administration's 2004 budget cut $172 million of impact aid funding. Impact aid funding assists school districts by making up for lost local tax revenue from tax-exempt property, such as military bases. These education cuts will especially affect school-age children of troops serving in Iraq who reside on military bases. ("Support for Troops Questioned," Washington Post, June 17, 2003)

Bush Administration tax cut denies military families increase in child tax credit. The families of 262,000 children of military personnel do not receive the child tax credit increase because the plan fails to cover taxpaying families with incomes between $10,500 and $26,625. According to The Washington Post, the House version of the Bush Administration plan "wouldn't help many of those serving in Iraq." One solider who will not benefit is Army Specialist Shoshana Johnson, the soldier and single mother who was wounded twice in the same convoy as Jessica Lynch. ("Ex-POW's Family Accuses Army of Double Standard on Benefit," Washington Post, October 24, 2003; "The New Senate Child Credit Legislation - What It Does and Does Not Do," Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, June 25, 2003; "Whose Child Is Left Behind," Children's Defense Fund, July 23, 2003)

13. Facetiously...
... you might consider printing up a bunch of fliers with the picture of the dogshit topped by the yellow flag with Bush's picture on it and casually leave them here and there. :P

More seriously, it's really tough to get through to that bunch--and because they're retailers, and their living depends on being true believers (or acting as if they are), it's even tougher.

Maybe just a simple page with the fourteen features of fascism printed on it?

Picture of a WWII German soldier's belt buckle so the "Gott mit uns" is clearly shown?

Dunno. Lots of possibilities.

Cheers, and good luck with it.

14. use the Beatitudes
in my humble opinion, the most eloquent and moving words in the Bible. And for a Christian, straight from Jesus'.

for example,

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God

Matthew 5, verse 9

or you could paraphrase it - I've seen this a lot - and I get a lot of discussion from my own t-shirt with it -

W.W.J.B.
Who Would Jesus Bomb?

I've actually had some of them stop and tell me that they never thought of it that way. It's a bit scary to me that if their leaders don't tell them, they don't get it - but hey, thank God for folks like you that are willing to be the messenger.

Good Luck to you!

16. Be careful
most cases of of complaints against subliminal advertising, to my understanding, have not been proven as the intent can't be shown. In this case, uh, well, draw your own conclusion.

Here is some info I found on subliminal info; the first cite is for Television, the other is from the ATF - take it with however many grains of salt you choose.

The TV Code of the National Association of Broadcasters (IV, 14) states: "Any technique whereby an attempt is made to convey information to the viewer by transmitting messages below the threshold of normal awareness is not permitted." Unfortunately, these laws are vaguely stated yet greatly limited. The most potentially effective regulation is made by the U.S. Treasury Department, Division of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF). It states:

Subliminals are inherently deceptive because the consumer does not perceive them at a normal level of awareness, and thus is given no choice whether to accept or reject the message, as is the case with normal advertising. ATF holds that this type of advertising technique is false and deceptive, and is prohibited by law.

17. Listen.
You are among human beings who hold the same basic human joys and fears as you. Share your humanity. Listen to them. Talk to them,...as a common human being. Ask them basic questions about what's happening,...ask them, "what is happening?".

Respect them. Reach out to them. Don't impose "answers",...always express your "wonder" about what's happening and allow them to answer for themselves.

I live in rural America. All of us reject being pushed. All of us are ready to be pulled by those who share our humanity.

Try to find that photo that's of Bush but pictures of dead soliders make up the photo of Bush. I think Michael Moore has it on his website. Then you can put the John Kerry quote: "How do you ask a man to be the last man to die for a lie?" and then put the website URL to afterdowningstreet.org And I'm Christian and didn't find any of this offensive. :) Isn't this a convention? So of course there'd be all types of merchandise. Oh and I also didn't know prayer was illegal. Last time I looked there were prayers at a lot of events (such as inaugrations). What's scripture candy???

I keep hearing this, too. Actually, they've twisated the idea that we all can't be MADE to pray into they're not allowed to.

With so little independent thought going on among some in that group, they automatically assume the statement to be gospel, so to speak.

"What's scripture candy???"

Candy canes that look like Moses' staff? I'd like to see this stuff, too. I saw a Bible bar on the net recently, it has all the ingredients, dates, honey, etc. mentioned in the Bible. Supposedly packed with nutrition. O8)

I like the idea of leaving fliers on car windshields and in the bathroom stalls, too. Can you get anyone to help you do that?

I think it's important to keep it simple, like you said, and appeal to their Christian morals--war not peace, etc. I wouldn't bash Bush too much, unless that's your goal. If you want to be really effective, bashing Bush is just gonna' piss 'em off, and then they won't read what you have to say. But if you want to get at their heart, put fliers out that make them think of the hypocrisy of war or of Bush & Co. policies (no ad hominems). If you want more detail, add links to fliers like Information Clearing House http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/
Consortium News
http://www.consortiumnews.com/
or POAC
http://www.oldamericancentury.org/

These sites, while very anti-Bush & Co., are a great source for a person questioning Bush & Co. to start---because they list articles on a variety of subjects collected from a variety of sources. That's just my .02 worth. I had to do something similar to this before the (s)election.

I was there during setup and was amazed. The booths I saw were mostly for childrens books and it was sickening. The only hope is that as in most generations, the kids rebel against their parents.

My favorite booth was selling BibleMan The Video! Willy Ames fighting against secularism, evolution and impure thoughts. I hear it's a best seller in the religious crowd.

Good luck and spread the good word.
