I'm kinda sick of all the DU talk about the impending "draft" now that Rummy's war isn't going so well and they'll need soldiers for the next folly. Let's put an end to in right now, here why. Everyone is still forgetting the ~300,000 Reserve/NG troops still in America. That's right, we still have a lot of people to commit, if they want. We've only got about 25,000 Reserve/NG on the ground in Iraq right now.
The reason that they failed to initiate a massive "call-up" during Vietnam was because LBJ was afraid of angering the then more middle class NG. I strongly believe * gives a sh!t about the common working man (which is now the median NG recruit) and is more worried about angering rich, elite parents who are having their kids drafted to war. Or really the upper-middle class who can't really afford to send "Jimmy" to school in England to avoid the draft. There would be elitist exceptions like Vietnam, but not at the same level. Too much information control now.
So, no draft, look to see the Reserve/NG called up, much less profile than a draft and they're already indoctrinated into the military mindset (which is critical.)
But, comments are always appreciated.
Edit-added adjective "massive"
