Poll question: ATA - bring it back or not?
I will cast the first ballot for bring it back. Right now, if I want to ask about why a thread is locked or deleted with no explanation, I have to run around looking for a moderator, or have to directly bother the site admins with PM's. I also do not see why designated moderators could not watch over ATA, rather than have the admins be the only ones posting there. Moderators are supposed to have some discussion and consensus, so they could take turns overseeing ATA.

Go ahead, cast your vote!

1. So many good reasons for ATA
Now when a post is deleted it is very mysterious. It just disappears. While the poster may communicate with the administrators, no one else benefits from learning exactly what happened and how to modify his or her behavior.

The current system reminds me of the Meiji Japanese legal system. The law and court precedents were kept secret. The Japanese elites believed that it was better if the people did not know the rules, because they would be so fearful that they would be hyper vigilant in conforming their behavior. If the rules were known, it was felt, the people would behave just well enough to stay within the rules.

This system on DU ensures that we censor ourselves rather than rely on a system of rules about what is acceptable.

2. What I miss is the reporting of software issues.
If there is a bug you could check the ATA to see if it was reported by somebody else.

3. Completely agree.
That was very useful.

Plus, I miss the Swedish fish. Can you tell?
