U.S. justification for waging war on Saddam still haunts White House

WASHINGTON, DC - President Bush said on Wednesday that he will reserve judgement on Karl Rove’s possible involvement in the leaking of a CIA agent's identity until the special prosecutor’s criminal investigation into the matter is complete.

"This is a serious investigation," Bush said at the end of a meeting with his Cabinet, with Rove, his Deputy Chief of Staff, sitting just behind him. "I will be more than happy to comment on this matter once this investigation is complete,” Bush said.

While the White House seemingly stands by its man, NBC News Chief White House correspondent David Gregory discusses the investigation, how the administration is expected to proceed, and how the root of the scandal is once again the controversial justifications for the war in Iraq.

As to the question of whether what Karl Rove did was a smear campaign, or politically sleazy, it’s pretty clear to me that everyone in White House — from the president, to the vice-president, to other officials — shared Rove’s interest in discrediting former ambassador Joseph Wilson who was critical of the administration’s case for going to war in Iraq.

5. I agree, the DSM says they wanted to fix the intell, the Plame case

is one of a string of examples that show HOW threats and pressure (Kelly, Clarke, O'Neill) the discrediting officials(el Baradei, Blix, Annan) and finally, saboutaging efforts that might provide evidence contradictory to the party line (Wilson, Plame and who knows how many mid level CIA people).

This is well beyond lying and covering up lies. There were overt actions to impede intelligence gathering. Government agencies have been targeted because they simply were doing their job. The CIA has been trashed. The Department of State has been trashed. The Army has been trashed. If this isn't Treason - what is?

Who woke him up? Actually, Gregory's been one of the few honest ones in a cesspool of real slimeballs. Looks like he's ready to up the ante where the rest of us see this thing going.

Someone on Franken's show yesterday stated that the ultimate question in this whole probe goes to "Why would someone want to out Plame?" Why would they want to disclose an undercover agent in times of such peril...especially for personal gain? And if they did this with the yellow cake story, then didn't they "fix" other things, too.

Gregory's just advancing the ball here kids. Let's see how this one gets spunned for the next 24 hours.

8. DSM, Fixed Intell, Bolton.

I think it was obvious to us here at DU Plame was tied into DSM, "fixed intell." and the Yellow cake given at the State of the Union Address. Yellow cake (fixed intell) was flaunted to be a lie by Wilson.. who did the initial investigation.
It was a HUGE embarrassment to BushINC. Someone actually dared to call there "fixed intell yellow cake" A pile of bullshit that it was. That was Wilson who did so. In return they retaliated against Wilson by outing his covert wife.
Who was bullying the people for the "fixed intell" ... Bolton he is either the one who leaked to Rove Or the 2nd source. But he ties into this, he's the neat little bow on top.
