1. and who is he refering to as the gentleman?
Certainly not himself, as he's absolutely a career politician, even if he's been on the losing end of every election he's ever been in.

I'd like to think of that as a nice compliment to our gentleman doctor turned governor Howard Dean :-)

6. He is a career politician also, just not a successful one.
He has run for the State Senate, the U. S. Senate (twice), NYC Mayor, and now President.

3. is this constructive in any way whatsoever?
does this lead to any meaningful discourse at all? Heck, I could just say "9 great guys and one war-monger" and it would hold as much weight (mind you, I don't believe that Clark is a "war-monger", just trying to point out the absurdity of just posting one sentence like this). BRING BACK THE 5-SENTENCE RULE PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD:)!

7. You seem to have a problem with me...
...and I've ignored it until now.

It was a CUTE LINE. A FUNNY line. Meant for a chuckle. I could not care less if you believe it has no meaningful discourse.

Why not police your own posts?

8. not policing my friend
and it's not personal, don't give yourself too much credit:) (that was a joke, btw, not really meant as a knock:) It's your threads that sometimes bother me. When I see something that I feel is misinformation, or not constructive, I will point to it as such, and that is my right. This seems more like a lounge thread at best, and if you'll notice, I've posted the 5-sentence rule request on many other threads lately, as I think the quality of GD has been rapidly deteriorating. Nothing against you, I just have issue with the content of some of your posts. It's not a personal slam, I have tried and will continue to try to stick to the issues your posts raise, nothing personal. Ok:?

10. Case in point...
You say it isn't personal yet you admit It's your threads that sometimes bother me.

How can quoting Sharpton be misinformation. It is on the record he said it. And if you haven't noticed, not a lot of posts meet you definition of "constructive." But you don't seem to raise an issue with them.

Not that its your call to make, anyway. Apply to be a mod then you can be the Sheriff.

12. "case in point"
come again? I said "the content of your posts" i.e. you continually post things that many people (including most Dean supporters) feel to be misleading; or sometimes, like this quote, not helpful to the dialogue here. Everyone knows that 8 of the candidates are career politicians, everyone knows that Sharpton is an activist, and everyone knows that Clark is a General. So what does this add? Really? It would be like me saying "all 10 candidates are declared democrats". It doesn't ADD anything to the general discourse here, that is my point, and if you think that that's something personal against you, instead of just the quality of this thread, then you need a thicker skin. I comment on your threads and what is contained within them. I don't say "you're an a*shole for supporting Clark" or something of that nature, and I wouldn't, it's your choice, and it's just as valid as mine. However, if I see something that I don't feel is right or constructive, it's my damn right to call it out as such. You're reading too far into this, and I don't know how else to say it to you.

18. "your <sic> just another thread nazi"
nope, this thread was a veiled attempt at incinuating that Sharpton and Clark are the only two people who aren't "career politicians", which I'm sure we can both agree holds a "negative connotation". And with no discussion to back up this quote, what did you expect? A thread nazi, no, someone looking to prevent smearing without discourse, yes. BTW, Dean is NOT a career politician.

19. Once someone points out misspelled wurds, they hav lost...
Sorry you think you can read my mind. My post didn't imply that. And you seem to be the only one who thought that.

20. so what was your post supposed to imply?
or rather, what was one supposed to gain from it? if it didn't imply that, and was just stating a "fact" that all knew, why post it? and pointing out that I corrected your spelling doesn't make a point, you can put <sic> when you cite my posts if you'd like if you don't want to look like you misspelled something:) So what was the meaning of that quote then, and how was it supposed to generate discussion if I missed something?

21. Every post made here isn't supposed to "gain" something..
Sharpton said it, I pointed it out to begin a discussion on it.

if it... was just stating a "fact" that all knew, why post it?

You're not really assuming everyone here saw the debate and knew Sharpton said that, are you? :eyes:

And besides, I see nothing in the rules of the board that states you can't post on something that is (or is not) well known.

If that was the case, every thread on Clark would be a no no.

And lastly, pointing out words that are spelled wrong adds nothing to a discussion and points to intellectual bankruptcy. You tried to divert attention away from the point.

22. Is it fun to ignore issues and call names all the time?
"And lastly, pointing out words that are spelled wrong adds nothing to a discussion and points to intellectual bankruptcy. You tried to divert attention away from the point." calling names again I see eh? It doesn't point to "intellectual bankruptcy", I merely did not want others to think that I had misspelled something when it was not my statement my friend. So what was this discussion supposed to entail? "Oh wow, I didn't know that all of the 8 candidates other than Sharpton and Clark had been involved in politics, and I'm on a progressive democratic board! Heavens, how could I have read thousands of threads and not known this! Oh, woe is me!" Seriously, what did you expect? I'm not assuming that everyone watched the debate, but you could have pulled something meaningful from the debate, or somehow used this qoute as an ancilliary argument for something else.

5. Cute line, nothing more
Sharpton's all about style, not substance. He made some VERY good points last night. I thought his equating BushCo's bad trade policies with slavery was dumb, but most everything else he said really resonated with me.

He's obviously running to replace Jesse Jackson as the go-to guy when papering over the inherent racism in our society, but I think he's a sharper cookie than Jesse and may be able to cut better deals. Jackson was always a flawed idealist whereas Sharpton's a con artist like the rest of the establishment.
