From putting together all of the pieces about the Plame affair that have appeared here in the past few days, it looks as if the initial information leaked from the State Department, from the file they keep on Joe Wilson. That probably means John Bolton, who had access to State Dept files, is the one who introduced the information abot Plame to the White House staff.

After the Wilson op ed piece in the NYTimes, Bolton, who also had access to CIA files about its operatives, probably told Rove and Libby about Plame and her possible connection to Joe Wilson and his trip, and it was Rove and libby who called Cooper, Novak, and the other reporters on strict background (double super secret, whatever that means; obviously much deeper cover than cross your heart and hope to die).

In addition, Bush and Cheney were probably told about the Plame-Wilson by Rove and/or Libby, and that explains why they hired personal counsel outside the White House, so that they would be protected by client-attorney privileges, and to have counsel if they were required to testify about Rove or Libby.


But, where does Miller fit in? Is she protecting Bolton? Is it possible that Bolton was really her source for all of that disinformation about WMDs in the runup to the Iraq War, and not Chalabi (as we were led to believe by a supposedly secret email that may have itself been leaked disinformation)?

If the above is true, and if Miller testifies about how she got her information, she gives the evidence necessary for Fitzgerald to indict Bolton, Rove, and Libby, and eventually possibly Cheney and Bush if any of those three go to trial!

I'll bet that one number that showed often on those subpoenaed telephone records from AF1 and other parts of Fitzgerald's investigation had her phone number on it. Wanna bet that's why he's been wanting to talk to her?

The typical situation in which the journalist wants to be protected (and may insist on being protected) is when the journalist is a third party, not a second party.

I believe Kos was wrong and every other journalist who moans about poor Judy.

1st Party: Wrongdoer
2nd Party: Whistleblower
3rd Party: Journalist who listens, analyzes, and then does or does not write it up and publish it with the help of willing editors.

In this scenario:

Purpose - act in a partisan way and break two laws along the way

Why would the administration risk having the lack of evidence for Niger Yellowcake exposed? It was important enough to include in the SOTU, why leave it to an objective outsider to check out the story?

Why wouldn't they have just sent someone who they knew would validate this evidence? Hell, Powell is sent to the UN with bogus evidence to make the caus belli with Iraq, why wouldn't they corroborate the Yellowcake fabrication?

I hope we really learn who the players were that presented the request to CIA and exactly how Plame was approached for recommendations. I doubt she decided to follow up on the WH claim independently. I think they sought out her suggestions and might have even got her to recommend her husband.

The downside was this story would be exposed as a fabrication...so what? Lots of evidence was fabricated. The upside was they got Ms. Plame out of her NUC position (WHY?) and sent a clear message to the opposition of this administration that there are consequences when you cross these thugs.

What I wonder is this; does the petrochemical industry supply what is called dual use equipment for refineries. Equipment that not only can be used in the refinery industry, but also for uranium enrichment purposes.

Why I wonder this is Cheney being the CEO of Halliburton (KBR) would be in a position to also supply equipment to construct WMD. Say for example 6 pulse trigger circuits or maybe special drilling fluids and separating equipment that could also be used as equipment for uranium separation and concentrating centrifuges.

Not to plant false leads here, but remember Cheney was/is close to indictment in France for bribing Nigerians. Now if there was a money trail to hide these bribes, maybe this same trail was used to receive money from Pakistani A. Q. Khan for him to buy equipment from Halliburton subsidiary in the Cayman Islands, an attempt to thwart or circumvent nuclear anti-proliferation laws within the USA by using an off-shore subsidiary would still be very illegal. This could bust Cheney big time and put him in jail.

Now if Plame knew this, and Cheney knew that she knew, I could see how Cheney really was after Plame all along and Wilson Niger forgery was a front to hide what Cheney really wanted, to stop Plame from investigating what was going on with that bribery money flow as that could be a big key to money flow used for other reasons.

Now I want to stress that this is maybe over the top, but why would Cheney risk Plame for just something that Bu$h could blame on Tenet, or the Brit intelligence, or the Italian intelligence. Bu$h could say, "Hey, this is what I was led to believe, they fooled me too".

See what I mean? Makes no sense why Cheney would take the risk on Plame, unless there was something he was very concerned about that he didn't want to come out.

German Faces Trial for Nuclear Smuggling
Gerhard Wisser, 66, was arrested last September in South Africa and charged with four counts of contravening the Nuclear Energy Act and a law banning the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

Wisser is believed to be part of the nuclear smuggling network thought to be linked to Pakistani scientist Abdul Qadeer Khan (photo), who has admitted to helping Libya and other nations develop their weapons programs.

The German national is in particular suspected of organizing production in South Africa of equipment for Libya's covert nuclear program, which the country has since abandoned, German weekly Der Spiegel reports in its Monday issue.

The magazine said prosecutors uncovered several pieces of evidence linking Wisser to Khan's network during their investigation: a video cassette of Khan's laboratory in Pakistan, a business card of Khan's chief purchaser, and documents signed by Khan.

These reports say van Ruymbeke has fingered as the bagman in the operation a 55-year-old London lawyer, Jeffrey Tesler, who has worked for Halliburton for some thirty years. It was Tesler who was paid the $180 million as a "commercial consultant" through a Gibraltar-based front company he set up called TriStar. TriStar, in turn, got the money from a consortium set up for the Nigeria deal by Halliburton and Technip and registered in Madeira, the Portuguese offshore island where taxes don't apply. According to Agence France-Presse, a former top Technip official, Georges Krammer, has testified that the Madeira-based consortium was a "slush fund" controlled by Halliburton--through its subsidiary Kellogg Brown & Root--and Technip. Tesler is a curious fellow: A veteran operator in Nigeria, he was the financial adviser to the late dictator Gen. Sani Abacha and controlled his personal fortune, while at the same time working for Halliburton. Abacha's former Oil Minister, Dan Etete--who is suspected of having used some of the alleged bribe money to buy himself fancy apartments in Paris and a chateau in Normandy--was deposed by Judge van Ruymbeke in December. According to the Journal du Dimanche (a large Sunday paper), Etete's testimony seemed to confirm the judge's suspicions that Tesler laundered the $180 million through offshore and other accounts, and that part of the money wound up in dictator Abacha's coffers. Tesler's bank accounts in Monaco, Switzerland and elsewhere have been subpoenaed in an effort to find out where the money went. "

Edit: I bet the money Halliburton is getting in Iraq, that maybe a lot is getting 'scrubbed' and flowing right back into the Republican strongbox. Tesler and tristar need to be looked at closely.

I imagine she has a lot of light to shed on who did what to whom. After all, Kelly knew he was being followed. And Judy the Presstitute is alleged to have said that she is afraid to name names.

Judith Miller of the New York Times (NYT) exchanged numerous e-mails with Kelly. The Pulitzer Prize winner is a long-time member of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) and through her articles in the paper the most prominent of those warning of Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction (WMD).

Kelly's connections

If David Kelly was the peace-lover described by some in the anti-war movement, what was he doing hanging around with the New York Times' Judith Miller?

Since his suicide in July 2003, Ministry of Defence scientist David Kelly has been adopted by some in the media and anti-war lobby as a 'good man' who was keen to 'raise questions about the nature of the war in Iraq' (1).

Left-wing writer John Pilger claims the 'heroic' Kelly was 'the antithesis of those , who have shown themselves to be the agents of a dangerous, rampant foreign power' (2). If this is true, why does Kelly appear to have been a close acquaintance of Judith Miller of the New York Times - the most vitriolic pro-war journalist, whose shrill articles about Saddam and his WMD have recently become the subject of ridicule?
Shortly after Kelly's death, it emerged that his final email was to Miller. This is the one in which he referred to 'many dark actors playing games', words that Miller first quoted in an article for the NYT and which quickly spread around the world. The submission of Kelly's emails as evidence to the Hutton Inquiry this week reveals the rest of his message to Miller, in which he refers to her as 'Judy' and says 'Thanks for your support. I appreciate your friendship at this time' (3).

Hutton's evidence also shows that Kelly's email was in response to one sent by Miller, in which she asked Kelly how it went at the Foreign Affairs Committee where he gave evidence days before committing suicide. 'I heard from another member of your fan club that things went well for you', wrote Miller. 'Hope it's true, J.' (4)

Why was Miller a member of Kelly's 'fan club'? Miller is one of the most arch pro-war journalists; she has published numerous articles for the NYT over the past two years claiming that Saddam was developing chemical, biological and nuclear weapons. For some of these reports, Miller appears to have relied on highly dubious sources. In May 2003, it was revealed that one of her anonymous Iraqi sources, who she admits 'provided most of the frontpage exclusives on WMD' (5), was none other than Ahmad Chalabi - the Washington stooge who heads the CIA-backed Iraqi National Congress, and who has lived in the West for the past 45 years before returning to postwar Iraq in April 2003.

In Part I of this writer's *article, The Murder of David Kelly we detailed the numerous red flags in the evidence and testimony submitted at the Hutton inquiry into Kelly's death that showed conclusively that his death was not a suicide. One of the more important "clues" was evidence that his body had been moved after he died to the scene in which it was found. Other testimony showed it to be very doubtful that Kelly had inflicted the knife wounds on his left wrist that severed an unlikely artery but left the most easily reached artery untouched.

In Part II of the article, we detailed Kelly's extensive involvement with and/or knowledge of the bio/chemical weapons programs of the U.K., U.S. and Russia. One author reports Kelly also had visited the Israeli bio/chemical weapons facility. Kelly almost certainly would have been aware of the involvement of two U.K. scientists at Porton Down simultaneously as paid consultants to South Africa's notorious bioweapons program. He had also served as an inspector in Iraq of that country's WMD programs.

However the public perception of Kelly was as the "single source" of statements made by BBC reporter Andrew Gilligan to the effect that the government had "sexed up" the dossier used to justify the war against Iraq. Kelly had voluntarily disclosed to his MoD superiors he had met with Gilligan but denied he made the statements Gilligan attributed to his source.

In a July 9th press conference, the MoD confirmed that Dr. Kelly was Gilligan's source. Kelly was hauled before the parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee for a grilling but convinced committee members he had not provided statements ascribed to him by Gilligan. The committee chairman, MP Donald Anderson wrote a letter to Secretary of State Jack Straw confirming the committee's judgment and adding their view that, "Dr. Kelly had been poorly treated by his government..."

Kelly told his wife he felt he had been betrayed. We did not understand the depth and duplicitous nature of that betrayal until further reviewing testimony at the Hutton inquiry, particularly that of Richard Hatfield, Director of MoD Personnel.
