Is It Too Late For Bush To Fire Rove?
Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 08:12 AM by arwalden
Has Bush passed some imaginary and arbitrary moment in time where he's decided that it's simply impossible for him to fire Rove? Has he painted himself into a corner and--at this point--does he believe that he has no option OTHER than to support Rove?

In Bush's mind... if he fires Rove NOW, does he believe that it would be perceived as a sign of personal weakness by bowing to the 'whims' and mood of the public?

Does the fact that Democratic leaders are calling for Rove's firing make it IMPOSSIBLE for Bush to even consider the possibility now?

In reality (OUR reality) what's more politically damaging to Bush? Does ACTIVELY SUPPORTING Rove cause more damage to Bush? Does a *tardy* firing of Rove cause more damage to Bush? Does NOT firing him and merely waiting for a "voluntary" resignation damage Bush?

1. Yep, he sure has.
The Democrats are on the record as saying, "Fire him now."

Bush is on the record as saying, "I'm confident in everybody on my staff and I won't do anything until the investigation completes."

Rove gets indicted, Bush is in the deepest shit of his life.

16. Watching America rid itself of this corrupt administration is like
watching a dog rid itself of fecal cling-ons using the front lawn.
Its uncomfortable to watch but when its complete everybody is happy again.

2. Bush needs to cut Rove the fuck loose, but he will not
Because he is too damn stubborn. Hopefully, this obstinance will be his downfall.

3. I don't think he can fire Rove
It would be smart to - on a number of levels. Frankly it might even be best for Karl Rove as well; he can be a martyr, and the Right loves it's martyrs.

But I think President Bush won't - loyalty is very important in the Bush world. More important than telling the truth or being basically competent.

5. I hope he doesn't. I am loving the Repukes spin wildly to defend him
they say the whackiest things. Things that in their sheer banality will haunt their party for years.

11. I Agree With That...
... their own vanity, arrogance and stubbornness are causing damage. It will surely be an inescapable burden on this administration, and the cherry-on-top is that it will haunt the party as well.

GOP: the party of that puts more importance on petty partisan political revenge and harassment ABOVE security and OVER secrecy and HIGHER than our fight against terrorism.

6. If Rove Quits The Timing Ceases To Matter
If Rove voluntaryly walks out the door then the hisitation to dump the turd by the fucking chimp will be forgotten in a heartbeat.

8. Not if he is indicted
Indictment removes that cover because Bush did not fire.

You're dead right about that. An illegal act trumps a stupid act every time.

9. Sure It's Time To Fire Rove, But...
...it's also HIGH time to pull out of Iraq, but of course, Bush sure made it clear he's not going to be doing that anytime soon.

The arrogance of the Bush administration precludes any firing of Rove without, at least, an actual arrest or indictment for treason.

And don't be too quick with the "Bush rewards loyalty" line of shit. Remember Florida's Harris? Where's Bush's support of her Senate run? The Administration is so afraid that Harris will lose the GOP's seat they have not only asked her not to run, but they are actively supporting her GOP rival. And this is the woman who single-handedly gave Florida to Bush!

Loyalty comes in a distant second to Bush over personal security of his power and wealth.

10. For once I consider Bush's obstinacy a virtue
I firmly believe indictments will be coming against Rove and Bush will be doubly compromised for reneging on his promise to fire the leaker and then backing him up when he found out his involvement.

12. The real question is: "Can Bush function without him?"
I get the sense that he's not being kept on because of loyalty or stubbornness but rather because the administration can't function without his advice on every little policy detail. Officially, though, he should be highly expendable being a purely political advisor. But it seems that Bush* can do nothing without him so from his perspective the political damage is great no matter how Rove leaves.

14. It may be a moot point.
People who cause this much trouble for Bushco too often wind up suicided.

I can see it now -- depressed by the unfounded accusations against him, Karl Rove shot himself in the back of the head. Twice.

17. It may not matter because there's more than one leaker.
And if that's the case then it's very probable the whole thing was a conspiracy involving Cheney and Bush himself. What good does it do to fire Rove if that's the case. Also think about this, If he fires Rove then the prosecutor could give Rove immunity to testify against the rest of them. Any way you look at it it's bad for these MFer's.
