... Rove himself. The funny thing here (and it is truly mirthful) is that Rove has long years of expertise in manipulating public opinion for political purposes--in fact, it's all he really knows in life. But, this situation can't be improved by smearing anyone or a whispering campaign, or getting his talking points out to Mehlman and to the media gasbags on the right. It's now about the law, and Rove is powerless to influence that with his usual tricks.

He might get off with the help of a truly clever lawyer, but his talking points won't do him a bit of good now. Not one fucking, teeny-tiny bit. Not even a smidgen. And he hasn't figured that out, because the air is thick with Rove's fuck-`em-back talking points. Rove still thinks this is politics. It's all he knows.

It's not up to the public. It's not an election. There's no winning candidate here. It's something Rove doesn't understand at all--the legal system. It's a prosecutor and a grand jury, right now.

Rove seems to be one of those people who's spent his whole life collecting and using hammers of all types, and even though he's now run into something that is not a nail....
