Punishing Joe Wilson and exposing Valerie Plame was just part of the plan.
Killing her cover story and the effectiveness of the Brass plate "company" she worked for was the bigger part of the plan. They were discovering all the connections between Bush/Cheney and OBL, Saudi Arabia and the rest of the Oil/energy bigwigs.
