July 14 (Bloomberg) -- On TV recently, I called him a thug, this then-unknown leaker who watched from his privileged White House perch as my friend and colleague, Matt Cooper, went through hell to protect him.

Now that I know that the person is Karl Rove, I would like to revise and extend my remarks. Karl Rove is not a thug; he is a coward. Two years ago, he could have come clean, orchestrated his own redemption, saved millions in taxpayers' dollars, and spared everyone a lot of agony.

Let's suppose that Wilson did indeed claim, falsely, that Cheney personally selected him to go to Niger. To blow the whistle on this "lie", Rove still would have no logical need to expose Wilson's wife as a CIA employee. He could merely tell Cooper, "Some faceless bureaucrat at the CIA picked Wilson." For Rove to add that Wilson's wife authorized Wilson, or even to qualify that Wilson's wife recommended Wilson to her superiors, serves merely as an attempt to castrate Wilson. Rove is blowing a CIA operative's cover, oh and by the way the giant secret enterprise that is her company, in order to call Wilson a girly-man. What a pluperfect asshole!

2. Heard on the radio that there is videotape of Cheney saying

he sent Wilson to Niger on Meet the Press.

4. If the Rove convo with Cooper was..

just innocent chatter why didn't Rove announce that two years ago? Why did Cooper say "double super secret" source? What's so secret about Rove chatting with a reporter? Why did Rove say Joe Wilson's wife, IDing her as CIA? Why did Rove lie and say that Wilson's wife sent him to Niger, when it was not her but her boss that chose Wilson, upon her recommendation due to the fact that Wilson was highly knowlegable and qualified to look into the mattet that Cheney's office requested from the CIA that someone go to Niger to investigate the Yellow Cake matter and if that connected to Saddam. It all bullshit and the damn RW assholes know it. It's the RW Offensive to cover their crimes.

One of the things that I'm finding particularly difficult listening in all this is the list of glowing testimonials to what a great and upright guy KKKarl is, and this is just partisan sniping.

Outside of his late mentor, Lee Atwater, nobody has done more to lower the discourse of American politics over the last decade than Rove. The list is too long to go through exhaustively here- Swift Boat crap, push poll insinuations about John McCain, demonization of anyone who doesn't do the goose step with * as un-American or anti-patriotic.

These are not the actions of an honest person, and what's more, they've done nothing but distract the electorate from issues that actually matter by focusing on whispered innuendo. While he's usually (maybe not this time) good at keeping any direct links to his own actions suppressed, it's generally admitted even among his admirers that he has been responsible for at least questionable tactics. Combine that with the fact that even without direct evidence, these tactics have always miraculously shown up to disparage *'s opponents, and there's at least a strong circumstantial evidence that KKKarl is principally interested in winning elections, power, and influence at essentially any cost.

"Turd blossom" indeed- though I'd just drop the blossom part. The man's a turd through and through.
