The good thing about Intelligent Design
If ID is used to prove the existence of God, then intelligence must be good. If God is good, how could his existence be proved by something that isn't? So maybe ID is a crack in the wall that (for some) separates science and religion.

ID is useless as an attack on evolution because of the obvious argument that evolution itself is an intelligent design. But maybe ID can become a sort of intellectual isometric exercise. People who use science to attack science run the risk of becoming scientists.

5. Because
if you were a true believer, you wouldn't attack it.
if you were an atheist, you wouldn't care enough to attack it.
ergo, you must be one of those pesky agnostics,
always asking questions.

Which is a good thing.

6. True believers would attack it.
At least true believers in Christianity anyway. Intelligent Design relies solely and entirely on giving false witness, which is expressly forbidden by the Ten Commandments.

7. I was talking about "True" True Believers
Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 08:03 PM by The River
You know the ones! If you question anything, you're not a "Good"
Christian.

I'll stick to what I said on the other thread.
ID is real. Their explaination is dead wrong.
It (ID) is far more wonderful than they can imagine.
It's so complex it's the most simple truth there is.

On Edit:

If you can come to understand what ID really is
it's possible to talk to Fundies about the subject
in such a way as to make their heads explode.

9. That's an unusual argument construction.
I agree with the part that always asking questions is a good thing, but that equivocates on the idea that an agnostic asks questions. Everyone who asks questions is not an agnostic. I guess I think I can't doubt or prove God. It's off topic and egocentric stuff, though. I don't think of myself as agnostic FWIW.

On topic, I'm not attacking ID; I'm defending it. So I tend to agree with your other post below. The point of the thread is that ID may be a good thing, and I'm not sure its proponents intend the good consequences it may have. On the other hand, maybe the ID people simply can't stand not siding with intelligence. That's good.

4. That's the way they start out maybe.
But if you spend a lot of time trying to find intelligence in the world, you can't help but come to appreciate intelligence. I'm arguing that, and that it is a win simply to have the "ignoramuses" admit that they think intelligence in anything is indicative of God.
