Just to clarify: Hot coffee is a user created mod - not part of the game
Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 07:51 PM by TroubleMan
Concerning the GTA sex that Hillary is complaining about.

It was not created by the creators of GTA. It was created by some guys in the Netherlands as an addition you can add to the game. There is no way that you can get to the sex scenes without downloading the mod off the internet - no cheat, no easter egg, and no game play will let you experience what Hillary is complaining about. You have to purposely go to a website, download the mod, and install it on your computer.

The company that created the mod is not affiliated with the makers of GTA at all. A sex game was planned for GTA, but they never finished it or put it into the game - they took it out in development. However, they left some of the code in it. The guys in the Netherlands found the code and created a modification to the game so that you can play the sex game.

Also, the bodies were completely clothed. The makers of the mod added naked skins to the game so that you can have nude sex.

Once again....hot coffee is not part of GTA....it's a mod. You can make the same mod for any game, install it, and do the same thing. You can make a sex mod and a naked mod for a Mickey Mouse game if you want to.

Also, per GTA's EULA (end user license agreement - the thing you're supposed to read and then click okay if you agree) installing a mod is violating the terms you agreed to when you accepted the EULA. Therefore they put in an agreement that you have to accept to install the game in the first place. Part of this agreement is that you do not modify the software. They specifically forbade you to do anything like this before you agreed to install the game.

5. So this just impacts PC versions of the game and not PS2, etc. versions?
Why can't they make this clear? You DON'T BUY THE GAME with this stuff installed, you've got to add it later!!! It's misleading and wrong. The game itself isn't "perfect", but if the makers are innocent, why can't we make this clear?

7. You might be able to install the mod on the Xbox, but not the PS2

However, you would have to "mod" your Xbox also, which violates the terms of the Xbox's EULA.

You have to be very tech-savvy to mod your Xbox as well...it requires soldering.

The PS2 doesn't have a hard drive, so I don't know of anyway you can run the mod on it.

11. It Can Be Put Onto the PS2 As Well
The mod unlocks it. The content was originally created by Rockstar Games but they decided to lock it out. They never removed it.

13. The original content had clothes

the mod added the naked skins.

I thought you couldn't mod it on the PS2, but I just googled it, and I stand corrected on that point.

You can install hot coffee if you have the PS2 hard disk or a hacked saved game file.

8. But lets address a larger issue.
Why is all the violence not more pornographic than sex.

Not that I would censor the game, and it ALREADY has an adult rating. But why complain about sex when there are dead bodies all around.

It's a really violent game. Unfortunatley the USA is a violent society, so the politicians will never complain too much about that....how can they when we invade another country and killed thousands unprovoked?

One thing though, you're not supposed to be able to buy the game if you're under 18. It's got an M rating. If an adult plays it, that's their business. If the children play it, it's the parents fault for lack of supervision or responsibility.

Personally, this game is one of the best games I've ever played, and I've been a gamer since the 70's. It's a great game without the violence....however, the violence is in the context of the game.

10. Here's my take as a mother..
Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 08:51 PM by samdogmom
I tried to be PC and forbid my 19 yr old son from buying this game. He laughed at me and immediately did the opposite. Then, I tried to be present while he played it so I could "observe". Within minutes, I became "numb" to the violence. In the meantime, my son was so "into" the game, he was lost to my comments. In truth, I doubt he noticed the violent overtones, he was absorbed in achieving some level or score. Within time, I also became numb to the violence--the red spurts of blood, etc. just became a gimmick. Ultimately, I gave up my monitoring and let "what will be, will be" and you know what? Boredom set in, my son "conquered" the game. He never plays it now. End of story. P.S. He had a PS2 so he can't add the spicy features talked about on the news. But you know what, I doubt the gamers notice. They have bigger objectives in mind.

16. He Can If He Has A Way To Read Memory Cards On The PC
There's supposed to be a device that can edit save data on a PS2. People use this I suppose to transfer save data to their PC for storage because the memory cards can't hold a lot of game saves. Read up right here:

PS2 GTA: SA Censor Remover
Posted by DigitalD at 00:04. Site: . Category: General

gothi writes: GTA: San Andreas Censor Remover allows you to patch your PS2 GTA save to remove the censor and unlock the removed 'Hot Coffee' interactive scene (unlike the first PC patch the girls seems to be wearing only a little clothing rather than their regular clothes) Please make sure to follow the instructions in the readme and enjoy GTA: SA as it was meant to be. Download link: PS2 GTA: SA Censor Remover. Looks like you can enable the "hot coffee" scenes on your PS2 without the modification?

12. Not Exactly, The Content Was Created By Rockstar But They Locked It
They didn't remove it. The creator of this mod didn't hire the voice actor to do the new dialogue that is only in this specific Hot Coffee sex game. Rockstar created this but decided it was a bad idea and locked it out instead of removing it completely. You can read up on all of this and see for yourself at the following site. Only editing the Memory Card that comes from your PS2 proves it was in the game.

They took it out of the game, but didn't delete the code. The modders made it so you can access that code.

Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 08:55 PM by samdogmom
Thanks for the input. In my family, I'm the one who fixes all the electronic components, thank goodness!

However, a bigger point is raised! I'm old (50 in a few weeks) and I'm not outraged by this game. I agree its inappropriate and violent and certainly not my first choice for a non-violent, educational video game. But, come on, who is it hurting? Let's talk about the war in Iraq. My son is a sitting duck for this if the draft is reinstated. In my opinion, that's REAL VIOLENCE! Let's discuss the real violence, Hillary, and not these distractions!

Edit: But I love the music soundtracks that they release!

18. You contradicted yourself twice in that
Not that I don't agree with you.

First you say the mod created the software, then you said the mod really just unlocks something that was there and was hidden. Big difference. If it was there in the first place, locked or not, it was made by the manufacturer.

They don't specifically forbid you to do anything, but you will void your warranty and all support if you do install a mod.

Another big difference.

20. No, actually another company sued gamers for modding a game

It's in most EULA's that your violating it if you mod.

Also, the mod doesn't just unlock something that's hidden. If it was hidden, you'd be able to access it through regular game play or a code. You can't get to the hot coffee scenes WITHOUT MODIFYING THE GAME. These parts were taken completely out of the game - they weren't in it. They just never deleted what they took out.

It also adds content that wasn't there before. They not only made it so you can access parts of the game that were taken out, but they added their own code to it.

and there was some other company that did it, too.

Actually Rockstar (the creator of GTA) doesn't persecute modders, but something like this might make them (I hope not).

21. Should We Contact Clinton & Tell Her This Is A Bad Idea?
Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 08:47 PM by InfoMinister
Young people in the US are kind of getting pissed off about all of this. Just check out some of the forum posts.

http://forums.gamespot.com/gamespot/show_messages.php?board=314159266&topic=22200853&page=0

http://boards.ign.com/Grand_Theft_Auto/b5257/92989256/?13

I remember a few months ago I posted an article showing how videogame magazines listed all of the people who had voted on a bill about violent videogames. It encouraged young voters to go out there and get these people out of office. Are we going to see this type of activism in the next elections? If so then single issue voting is going to screw our party over if we let our fellow Dems go after all of these stupid non-issues that piss off potential voters.

27. I don't think she would care - - this is red meat for the red states
Zogby did a poll last month running her head to head against McCain, and he slaughtered her - - the poll was 54% McCain to 35% HRC. McCain even trounced her in the blue states, and got about 20% of the African-American vote, which is shocking.

HRC seems to have bought into the Clintonista/DLC theory that the way to win is to run as far to the right as you can get away with - - which (in theory) leaves the Republicans with only the wing nut fringe - - and also theorizes that the Dem base does not need to be courted, we will vote for a ham sandwich if it has a "D" after it's name. I disagree with that theory - - and I think the Zogby poll results are the natural end product of that strategy.

25. GTA shouldnt be sold to minors regardless of the sex...
if there was just a little T&A, it aint going to harm a teenager, not like he hasnt seen any already :eyes:

Lets face it, a game where you can mow down virtually anyone of any profession, with a huge assortment of weapons, freely, is not a kids game in the first place...

Though, it is QUITE fun

26. Here's a question for the techies
Rockstar is almost certainly going to be under a lot of pressure to recall these games and rerelease them with the locked out sexual content completely deleted.

Suppose they do that...

I assume that a modder can still create x-rated animations that can be added to the game with a different hack. I mean, there's really no way to make the game hack proof, is there?

28. Nope, not really...
Rockstar already stated that Mods and hacks are Welcome in their games, and they made GTA: SA "wide open" in this regard. As an example, you can change the handling of any vehicle in the game with a text editor and a little time.

29. I don't know about the last part...
Usually the EULA covers the game executable code itself(like a NO CD Crack), not necessarily content. When the PC version was in the works, Rockstar stated publicly that they wouldn't ignore the Modding community. Then again I never look at EULA's, or read them, don't care really, just like 99% of software users.

30. True....Rockstar is modder friendly
Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 11:37 PM by TroubleMan
I don't read the EULA either on anything, but Tecmo successfully sued some modders.

IMHO, modding a game adds to its value and replayability (look what Counter-Strike did for Half Life). Gaming companies should be happy that their games are being modded.

However a judge (in Japan) has determined that modding does violate the EULA.

Trust me....I'm all for modding, but the point is that Rockstar isn't to blame for the Hot Coffee mod, and that the EULA gives them a legal talking point that they can use.

They took it out of the game before it was released, (on edit) and then when you install it, it makes you click "ok" to an agreement that says don't fool with our software.
