Last year, I had a letter to the editor published in the Courant comparing the Bush Administration's fighting of terrorism to the Keystone Kops for their outing of Mohammed Naaem Noor Khan, a British based double agent who had infiltrated the highest levels of Al Qaeda. The Bush team had outed Khan to justify their terror alert of August 1, 2004.
As a result of this outing, British intelligence had to rush to apprehend local Al Qaeda much earlier than they had planned, and several escaped.
At the time, British and Pakistani officials were outraged by the outing of Khan after working so hard for so long to get somebody inside Al Qaeda.
It seems this outing may have had tragic consequences in the UK this past week. British intelligence, as reported on ABC News, has now linked last week's suicide bombers in Britain to the outed Mohammed Naaem Noor Khan. On Khan's laptop were plans for a coordinated attack on the UK subway system.
It is a sad day for the world when C.Y.A. is more important in America than the security of our nation and our allies. But, coming from the folks that also outed CIA NOC Valerie Plame for political revenge, this should not be a surprise.
