Let's win over the members of the military
and their families. Find a military member or a family with someone in Iraq and support them in any way you can. In this way, liberals can make new friends and possible make a few converts. I say this because I know it can be done.

I make quilts for wounded military (www.quiltsforsoldiers.com). I have no direct contact with the recipients, but it lets them know there are people out there who care. On July 4th, I took a number of quilts to display along the city parade route. I passed out cards with the URL. On my way home, I walked up my street which is home to a number of military families and war supporters. I showed all my quilts and told them who they were for. They looked at this crazy ass liberal, with all the posters in her windows, with new eyes. There was the recognition that the Left does care about our young men and women. These were people who see me every day, but to whom I had never spoken. The ice was broken.

My point being that there are many things we can do as individuals to change minds, to get others to take another look at our position, to remove that hostility.

Mow someone's lawn. Take their kids to a movie. Do something on a personal level to win hearts and minds.

2. Beautiful sentiments. . .
I applaud you greatly for this idea. I really do. Everyone out there, please keep Patrick Clothier in your thoughts and in your prayers. He is my cousin and I love him dearly. He only went to the military just to earn a living and now he's in Iraq. He didn't want to reenlist, but where was he going to get a nice quick bonus of cash?

3. I chatted with a soldier recently
He was just returning from Iraq but was going back in a few
weeks. I'm sure it was evident by our talk that I am a
Democrat but I also let him know that we do support him and
hope for his safe return.

I'm sure he also picked up that I was opposed to the war. He
was very appreciate of what I said. My hope is that he will
convey to his fellow soldiers that even Dems who oppose the
war, hope for their safe return. Many of them may well join us
in our "Bring the troops home NOW" opinion.

I agree, personal contact helps to win over hearts and minds.
;)
