Who here thinks that the policies of this administration might sire a blowback that becomes *very* personal? When you look into the eyes of Bush, do you ever think, "This man might be the death of me?"

Ever worry about dying in a terrorist attack? Or, if we are indeed on the cusp of totalitarianism, do you ever imagine yourself being shipped off to an American-brand Gulag?

On edit: One has to wonder what was going on in the heads of (sane) Germans as the bombs began to fall on Dresden, Hamburg, etc...

9. I'm with you, I feel like I'm going to go crazy

witnessing what is happening and being absolutely powerless to stop it. I see other try and get fired or suicided (I do think that happens). Then I see the democrats voting almost identically and feel like it's one of those movies where the people who are supposed to be the good guys turn out to be in on it with the criminals.

I think about it. Anything could happen now and I know we are not safer and that our ports and boarders are wide open. Anybody can be planning anything and could have connections here in the States and all types of stuff. My town isn't a big major city or anything like that so I feel a little safer and I have a good independent mayor and a democratic governor. I'm glad I don't live in a big city like NYC, Boston, LA.

14. What really frighetens me is that I read something a while back

where someone interviewed survivors of formerly peaceful societies hijacked by violent,totalitarian regimes and they all said that "we didn't know what was happening until it was too late."

That's my fear, that one day we will wake up and find ourselves in some Orwellian nightmare. The line will be crossed and there will be no escape, no hope, no future. That and the fact that I live in NYC and ride the subway.

I was diagnosed with MS last year, and since my husband is self-employed and I am a student, I have to rely on medical assistance for my daily injections (they cost $1800 per month). Our laughably small income may make us ineligable for assistance because as they keep hacking federal funds for the program, the state lowers the income threshold. Without the shots, my disease may progress rapidly, so these evil bastards scare the hell out of me! On a lighter note, I'm pretty sure I'll outlive Dick Cheney.:mad: :argh:

us? It seems like we've got no one looking after us. The Busheviks are taking, destroying, polluting, killing, stealing and generally fucking up everything they touch. Social Security, pension cuts, no bankruptcy protection, massive deficit, an illegal war that is slowly bankrupting the US, a horrible energy policy, no regard for the environment...what will be left for our children?? I s'pose if they fired the draft up and got to whatever low priority women in thier twenties with kids would be at and I got denied CO status then couldn't get out of it by leaving the country or maintaining a continual state of pregnancy and lactation for a few years, my life might be at risk. 15. I think about death.

I live in a major port city, and I heard recently about DHS's fears that a nuke could come in, like its pretty viable. This is alarming. But on death, that's where my real thoughts were. I had the thought: Geeze, I wish my government would get ethical I wouldn't fear death so much.
Having these thoughts has nothing to do with appeazing terrorists so they don't attack, its about appeasing the One who I am going to have to deal with after I die. That's the one I'm worried about pissing off, and I don't want to have to explain to Him about how I stood by and kept paying taxes knowing that people were being tortured.

Really the whole torture/posing prisoners for gay sex at gunpoint thing really is the most devastating piece of anti-american propaganda I have ever seen, and its not even propaganda, its truth. I mean, have you ever seen a movie where the good guys take the bad guys hostage and sexually torture them? No. That's the thing, we are seeing images that show us we are the bad guys. Not fearing death when you know you are on the good side is one thing, but once you feel you are on the other side, its a LOT more scary for people!

22. I've struggled with that a lot.

I think most people of conscience have. The only answer that has come is that I have to do "my part". What that part is, I think is different for everybody. It challenges us down to our core to figure out what we really believe in, what your willing to bet on as far as moral action when your future is on the line.

For me, I have come to believe that everything is connected and the small things are vastly important. I believe being ethical in your small scale actions can have huge effects in the world. As gadhi said, your part is infinitly small but it is infinitly important that you do it.

Either love it, or leave it. I choose to leave it long ago. Just a matter of time till it comes to fruit. Damn, I pray for that day. I do believe we, as a species, are capable of so much more, but it will not happen- if ever - for many generations. fuck it all.
