"Leaker May Never Be Found, Concedes Bush" - October 2003
This will just put a smile on your face. George was spinning during the FBI investigation that they weren't going to find anything.

http://www.iwar.org.uk/news-archive/2003/10-07-3.htm

Mr. Bush told reporters that the White House is cooperating fully in the leak investigation. But he expressed doubt that persons who gave the information on the covert CIA officer will ever be found. In an exchange with journalists, he put it this way. "You tell me. How many sources have you had that leaked information that you've exposed or has been exposed? Probably none," he said.

1. Oh yeah, I remember this.
And Bush probably knew at the time he said this that Rove was the leaker.

2. All he had to do was walk down the hall from the oval office....
...And look into Rove's office.

He's no Matlock.

3. Hrm, remember the tacky "looking for WMD under chairs" video?

...someone ought to re-dub that as looking for leaks.

5. "Bin Laden may never be found, says Rumsfeld"
Man these guys give up so freakin easy...

October 26 2001 at 06:43AM

"Washington and Kabul - As the US-led military force revealed that its much vaunted first land operation in Afghanistan was a shambles and a near-disaster, US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld warned that the US might never capture terror suspect Osama bin Laden, and that even if it did so, his al-Qaeda network would
remain.

Admissions by Rumsfeld and US Navy Rear Admiral John Stufflebeem that they were surprised by the toughness of the Taliban give a glimpse of how badly things could have gone wrong."

6. What was the leak around that time, that he DID get all worked up over?
Edited on Fri Jul-15-05 01:55 AM by Hissyspit
I can't remember. It came across as quite hypocritical even at the time.

8. Well...
the initial spin from the White House was that there were lots of leaks of confidential information taking place all over Washington and leaks are bad. So this one leak was, well, just a drop in the ocean, but we need to focus on the ocean.

That position is no longer operative.

9. Yeah, I remember, but there was a leak that Bush got really Mad about
and said we're gonna find this person if it's the last thing we do, or something to that affect and then several months later it was 'well, gee, I like to catch this guy, but it's SOOOOOO HARD. It's hard work!'

7. God, I remember this.
Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

Even if Rove keeps his job (which, I know, is a definite possibility), he's at least out of the shadows. People know the name, and there's a stigma attached.

It gives me something to smile about in an otherwise morose time, politically speaking.

10. Things like this amaze me
How they could slide out of trouble because of a timid, corporate media and a forgiving, unwitting public (half of it anyway). This is just the latest in a string of Watergate level impeachable offenses. The present may not acknowledge it but history will bear this administration out to be the cruelest and most corrupt in the history of the United States. The arrogance, warmongering and flippancy have probably set up the next major terrorist attack on our soil that will germinate for years before another generation has to suffer the loss of loved ones and be forced to clean up an old, festering disaster built on eight years of ill-informed, dangerous foreign policy.

"U.S. President George W. Bush says there is a chance that the senior administration official
who revealed the name of a covert CIA officer to a newspaper columnist may never be found.
And a presidential spokesman says three top Bush aides have denied they are the sources of the leak."

"He's probably hunkered down with Saddam's Wmds. So, we'll never find him!", a perplexed Bush offered weakly.

14. I feel a "guilty knowledge" vibe from his dismissive comments.
Edited on Fri Jul-15-05 09:47 AM by Zen Democrat
It sounds like a "move along, nothing to see here" kind of comment.

In retrospect, I think it's just amazing that the President of the United States would voice such lack of faith in the judicial process. The Justice Dept. was investigating this at the time of his remarks in October 2003. Bush is doing a wave-off here -- and I believe he's involved in this up to his lyin' eyes.
